    JOB SUMMARYTo administer procedures utilized to measure concentrations of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas and body products to obtain information used for diagnostic purposes.

    Works with patients of all ages.


    Supervised by:
    Imaging Services Director and Imagining Clinical Supervisors.
    JOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum EducationA.R.R.T (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)Completion of curriculum and experience in radioactive isotopes preferred.
    Meets requirements of the registry of ARRT.Must keep continuing education credits.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1) Performs technical procedures which require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in utilization of radioactive substances for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.2) Maintains area with adequate supplies and in an orderly manner.3) Maintains a safe environment for self, co-workers and patients.4) Maintains adequate records, as directed, in insure safety and quality of care of patients and diagnostic quality of procedures.5) Does all tests and documentation required by federal and state agencies.6) Performs all technical procedures in radiology when there are no nuclear medicine procedures to do.7) Is able to take call for nuclear medicine if necessary.8) Maintains high quality of patient care, positions and handles patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care tact, courtesy, patience and safety.9) Greets and introduces self to patient and describes nature and time requirements of requested exams.10) Identifies problems and communicated to the imaging director, offers solutions as appropriate.11) Checks order for history/special instructions. Furnishes radiologist with the patient's history, injection site and isotope dosage on assessment form. Completes all paperwork where applicable. Scans into PACS.12) Maintains good working relationship with radiologist communicates/consults with radiologist regarding examinations as necessary.13) Performs specific duties requested by the director of imaging services with a great attitude.14) Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings, staff in-service education and training programs.15) Promotes good interpersonal relationships within the department and hospital.16) Assumes responsibility for proper and efficient operation of all the nuclear medicine equipment used; reports malfunctions and the need for adjustments or repairs to the imaging director or clinical coordinator.17) Assists in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs and carts onto the table in nuclear medicine.18) Performs office procedures in absence of clerical personnel.19) Is dependable when on call for 24 hour departmental coverage.20) Works with and assists radiological students.21) Includes all job duties of the registered staff technologist.22) Participates in the continued quality improvement program.23) Uses HIS and can communicate by e-mail.24) Works well with our PACS.25) Practices AIDET with everyone.

    FUNCTIONAL DEMANDSPhysical Demands-Requires full range of body motion including:
    handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
    • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
    • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds.
    • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
    • Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
    • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
    • Requires some exposure to radiation.
