    Position Summary

    Perform a wide variety of office tasks requiring a thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and systems, providing expert administrative support to faculty members of the Department of Pathology and Microbiology.

    Assist in the planning, organizing and implementing of research associated activities for faculty and the department. Position is required to handle matters of a moderately complex nature to conserve supervisor's time.     Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Expert knowledge of the principles of office management/procedures as applied to effective organization of office and department operations, as well as ability to plan and organize the workflow in a busy office environment.


    Excellent computer skills, including experience with word processing, database and spreadsheet software programs required.

    Excellent customer service abilities, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, as well as to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, department administrative staff, interdepartmental contacts and the general public.

    Ability to be self-directed in accomplishing the coordination and decision making responsibilities of this position, and be resourceful in problem solving and able to work with minimal supervision.


    Ability to be organized and flexible in response to changing demands, handling a high volume of work under pressure


    Preferred Education:
    Associate's degree or equivalent If any degree/training is preferred, please specify the type: Business administration, finance or related field

    Preferred Experience:
    More than five years increasingly responsible administrative support experience.

    Academic and/or scientific secretarial experience.

    Experience in academic institution.

    Experience with grants administration

    Microsoft Publisher Preferred Other Computer Applications:

    EndNote, Adobe Pro, and Adobe Photoshop or similar graphics software Preferred Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to interact with academic faculty, staff, scientific organizations, and other members of public; outstanding verbal and written communication skills; ability to handle multiple and complex tasks simultaneously; ability to gain and retain new technical office skills; and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


    Ability to handle sensitive information relating to personnel records, laboratory results, etc. and keep information confidential.

    Scientific terminology; transcription of dictated materials; must be able to work in demanding and stressful situations with complete accuracy, confidentiality, and dependability; must be able to meet deadlines on a regular basis; must present a positive and professional image at all times; and the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
