Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community.
Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University's operations.
Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university's operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

Purpose
Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostic testing, and repairs of building systems and components.
Responsibilities
Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostic testing, and repairs of mechanical systems for campus fountains and Turtle Pond. Performs water quality tests and makes adjustments to chemicals, temperature, etc., as necessary to meet pool, spa, and fountain water quality requirements. Checks and interprets gauges, flow meters, and monitoring equipment for operational efficiency.
Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs of mechanical systems to include pumps, fans, compressors, and specialty equipment. Acquires field data from equipment, tags, and applies equipment labels.
Cleans mechanical rooms and fountain basins. Organizes spare parts, equipment and material to ensure proper storage requirements are met and efficient retrieval of items.Acquires parts and maintains appropriate stock of material and supplies. Maintains inventory for repairs and maintenance.
Maintains records of water quality inspections and prepares reports on repairs and services according to university and regulatory requirements.
Assists electricians, plumbers, refrigeration mechanics, carpenters, and others as needed to meet shop goals and objectives.
Performs basic electrical tasks, such as the replacement of lamps and ballasts.
Utilizes precision instruments to determine flow rates, pressure drop, etc. to insure proper alignment, installation, and operation of belts, chains, couplings, bearings, and other drive components.
Reads blueprints, works from specifications, and follows instructions both written and oral. Performs daily written explanations on work orders to document work done and to describe equipment problems. Uses appropriate personal protective equipment to work with hazardous chemicals common to pools and spas.
Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience in applicable maintenance or construction trade or as a pool and spa technician. Certified as a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or able to obtain that certification within 6 months of being hire for the position. Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety rules and regulations.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate Degree. Graduation from technical or vocational trade school. More than five years experience in applicable maintenance or construction trade and direct experience as a pool and spa technician. Experience using diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, power quality meters, accelerometers, etc. Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting. Experience in more than one craft or trade. Working knowledge of computerized systems. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints related to trade. Ability to write reports summarizing work activities. Demonstrated stable work history. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program.
Salary Range
$50,111 + depending on qualifications

Additional Working Conditions:
This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed.
Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.
Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements.
Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.
May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.
May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend. Operate job related equipment.
May require tuberculosis screening and occasional use of a respirator.
Participate in on-call program.
Work Shift
40 hours a week, five 8-hour days, or possible four 10-hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekends and holidays possible.
