    Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

    The Program Director of Teacher Education will support the strategic vision for teacher education in partnership with the Associate Dean for Educator Preparation in the College of Education (CoE). This position will require working on campus/in person, with options for teleworking. Major responsibilities will include:
    • Develop and manage course offerings across teacher education in three CoE departments.
    • Serve as a College representative on system and statewide committees involved with teacher education, recruitment, and transfer articulation.
    • Collaborate with CoE faculty and staff, as well as with state entities (Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland Higher Education Commission, Association of Advanced Quality Educator Preparation, and local schools and education agencies).
    • Serve as UMD Certification Officer (with support from Student Services staff) and UMD liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education for certification and educator preparation.
    • Oversee the Office of Assessment and the edTPA Office and provide support to pre-service teacher education candidates.
    The Program Director will report to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Educator Preparation and will supervise and manage the College's full-time and part-time faculty, student, and staff members of the Assessment and edTPA Offices, including the Manager of PDS Partnerships, Assistant Director of Assessment, Coordinator of EdTPA, and Recruitment Coordinator.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:
    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
    Experience:
    • Proven personnel supervision and team management.
    • Planning conferences and professional development.
    • 10 years as a PK-12 educator or leader in a school district.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and work collaboratively within and across units. internal and external to the organization.
    • Demonstrated ability to strategically plan.
    Preferences:

    Preferences:
    • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or a research-practice social sciences discipline (e.g., human development, counseling, educational psychology).
    • Experience working with faculty in higher education.
    • Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Knowledge of research literature and assessment of student learning.
    • Knowledge of anti-racist pedagogy, and experience integrating diversity, equity, and belonging efforts in courses, programs, or institutional processes.
    • Knowledge of future trends and innovations in learning and higher education.
    • Data-driven approach to decision-making.
    Additional Certifications:

    Current or prior teaching certification preferred.
