    JOB SUMMARY

    The Donor Specialist performs donor/patient suitability assessments and the manual and/or automated collection of blood and blood components in accordance with cGMP's, regulatory and departmental compliance; recruits and educates donors.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Other duties may be assigned.

    · Performs all processes in compliance with industry and regulatory standards (FDA, AABB, cGMPs).

    · Understands the basic principles and procedures of quality control, proficiency, and preventative maintenance.

    · Understands, performs and documents all phases of donor medical and physical eligibility/suitability assessments.

    · Performs audit functions related to all essential job accountabilities.

    · Performs blood collection which includes preparing venipuncture site, utilizing appropriate equipment, collecting samples, completing paperwork and computer functions specific to whole collections.

    · Performs automated blood and component apheresis procedures, completing paperwork and computer functions specific to automated collections.

    · Performs, documents and takes appropriate action on QC.

    · Transports, processes, stores and modifies blood, components, and donor samples.

    · Documents exceptions, deviations (BPDs), and reactions.

    · Schedules, performs and documents all phases of component apheresis procedures.

    · Assists with donor recruiting, education and community awareness programs.

    · Coordinate and document the major maintenance of the bloodmobile.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    · Minimum of High School or GED required.

    · Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data

    · Minimum of 1 month of experience in a donor center, laboratory or clinical setting as a Phlebotomist or in a medical environment (I.e. paramedic, medical assistant, physician's office) preferred.

    · Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
