Description

As a Biological Science Technician (Plants) within the Western Ecological Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:

Conduct field studies and surveys to collect biological data and/or specimens.

Conduct a variety of data manipulation and analyses such as compiling and tabulating botanical data and other resource management information.

Compile, analyze and summarize field data for preparation of final reports and publications.
Collect and organize field data using a variety of botanical data collection procedures and equipment.
Operate a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver.
Operate and maintain outboard powered boats.

Physical Demands

The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, or bending, walking or climbing ladders or scaffolds to observe, collect or record data.

Work Environment
The work environment varies from laboratory setting to field sites and offices.

The work involves moderate risks and discomforts such as high noise levels and exposure to chemicals, adverse weather conditions, and extreme temperatures that may require following special safety procedures.

Conditions of Employment of the USGS Watercraft Safety Program:

Motorboat Operator Certification - You must be able to take and pass the USGS Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC) within six (6) months of employment.

CPR Certification - Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification for the duration of employment.

First Aid Certification - Must be able to obtain and maintain Wilderness or Advanced First Aid certification for duration of employment

Only if the employee will be over an hour away from emergency services while on a boat.)
