    The role - what you'll do

    Barr is on the lookout for a passionate and skilled mid-level water/wastewater engineer to join our dynamic team. In this hybrid position, you will collaborate with diverse project teams to provide top-notch design engineering and technical expertise for water and wastewater systems and treatment facilities. You will engage with both industrial and municipal clients, including those from mining, fuels and natural gas, power generation, and manufacturing sectors.

    We seek candidates who are motivated and dedicated to outstanding client service. They should possess the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively, leveraging their project management skills and technical talents across a variety of assignments. Flexibility in adjusting to meet project timelines and client needs is essential. Successful candidates will also prioritize building strong relationships, as this role requires engagement with both internal and external clients.

    Your impact - key responsibilities

    • Multidisciplinary collaboration: Work within cross-functional teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions for municipal and industrial clients.
    • Design & analysis: Conduct technical analyses, select equipment, and develop comprehensive designs, drawings, and specifications for treatment systems and infrastructure.
    • Project management & execution: Manage or assist in projects from initial planning to construction, including cost estimation, bid preparation, and overseeing construction activities.
    • Technical reporting & compliance: Create detailed technical reports and ensure all engineering designs adhere to environmental regulations and compliance standards.
    • Client engagement & business development: Collaborate with clients to implement customized solutions while contributing to mentoring, practice development, and business growth initiatives.
    • Field support: Engage in site visits and short-term assignments to facilitate project execution and foster client relationships.

    About the opportunity

    • Compensation: The anticipated salary range is $80,000-$95,000 annually, varying based on experience, education, skill level, and other factors. Employees in this position may also qualify for a discretionary bonus based on individual and team performance.
    • Work location: This role allows for a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work. You will be based out of our Hibbing, Duluth, or Minneapolis, Minnesota office, with a requirement to visit the office at least once a month.
    • Travel expectation: Expect to travel up to 15-35% of the time, averaging 1-3 consecutive days on-site for project duties.
    • Work environment: Be prepared to work in diverse settings, including harsh terrain typical of construction sites with potential safety hazards, requiring physical capabilities compatible with job duties.
    • Physical requirements: Responsibilities may include lifting or moving field testing equipment; candidates should be able to perform core job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

    About you - required core competencies

    • Education: A Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering from an accredited institution is required.
    • Experience: 5-10 years of relevant experience in consulting engineering or industrial workplaces; experience aligned with job duties is preferred.
    • Licenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) certification or the ability to obtain it within one year is necessary.
    • Willingness and ability to travel regularly.
    • Software: Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; experience in Infrastructure Design is an advantage.
    • Driver's license: Must possess a current, valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship from Barr now or in the future.
