    Job description--Junior Estimator--Substation Construction/Maintenance

    SUMMARY

    MLB & Associates, hiring for a growing publicly traded, high voltage electrical contractor based in Chattanooga, TN is seeking a high voltage substation Estimator. This role reports directly to the Senior Estimator. Primary focus will be estimation of substation construction and maintenance projects in the eastern half of the United States. The ideal candidate will live or relocate to the Chattanooga, TN area (this is not a remote or hybrid position) and can accommodate travel to other regions, as needed.

    ESSENTIAL/ NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Must have a working knowledge of estimating with practical application. Projects may range in voltage from 13kV (distribution) to 500 kV (transmission)
    • Attend customer pre-bid meetings, project walk-downs or conferences
    • Participate in bid review and client proposals to ensure accuracy of bid and evaluate project feasibility; work with estimating team to develop bid schedule
    • Estimate substation construction and maintenance projects
    • Estimate the cost of materials, equipment and the labor needed to for projects
    • Upon project award, support smooth exchange of project details from Estimating to Operations and Project Management Team
    • Coordinate with customers, project sponsor, manager of construction and project team to develop comprehensive plan for start-up and successful kick-off.
    • Facilitate communication between Customers Representatives, Superintendents, Construction Managers and Subcontractors
    • Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors, subcontractors and suppliers
    • Possess ability to review, comprehend and comply with multiple customer requests for proposals

    Additional Skills & Desirable Qualifications:

    • Proficiency including but not limited to Word, Power Point
    • Highly proficient with Excel
    • Understanding and working knowledge of Primavera P6
    • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communications
    • Experience working directly with customers in the estimating/development of substation related projects
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Organizational, planning and time management skills
    • Demonstrated negotiating and decision-making skills
    • Excellent leadership skills
    • Advanced mathematical and analytical skills

    • Working knowledge of project accounting practices and financial systems
    • Experience with contracts: Fixed Price, Time & Equipment, Cost Plus and Unit
    • Self-motivated, self-learner, capable of working autonomously with ability to work well under pressure, respond appropriately to changing priorities and unexpected situations
    • Ability to maintain and protect confidential information
    • Accommodate occasional travel schedule as required for pre-bid or project progress reviews
    • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing additional tasks as needed

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Bachelors degree in Construction Management or related field.
    • ?Minimum 3 years of experience in high voltage substation estimating.

    Licenses/Certifications preferred

    • PMP Certification

    Salary: $60k to $75k annually
