    Position Overview

    Primary Function:
    Employee performs prep and semi-skilled work in preparing and cooking a variety of foods for the dining hall or our retail units. Work involves preparing and cooking a wide variety of foods, some of which may require special techniques and care to reduce costs and serve properly.

    This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out tasks and assignments.

    Position Description

    Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Prepares and cooks a variety of foods.
    • Operates standard cooking equipment; such as mixers, steamers, toasters fryers, ovens, grills, and stoves.
    • Provides excellent customer service including, but not limited to processing orders, cash register operation
    • Participates in kitchen cleaning work, such as washing and cleaning equipment.
    • Packages and labels prepared food products
    • Secures food supplies from storeroom and/or refrigerators
    • Practices food safety and maintains and follows sanitation (HACCP) standards.
    • Assists in storeroom duties such as receiving orders, rotating stock, and taking inventory
    • Other duties as assigned
    Judgment Required:

    Judgment and discretion regarding the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

    Budgetary Responsibility: None

    Machines & Equipment Used:
    All standard kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, mixers, tilt skillets, etc.

    Personal Interaction/Communications:

    Student Contact: Regular interaction with student diners.
    Internal: Limited interaction.
    External: Limited interaction with members of the greater campus community, generally only during alumni and special weekend events.

    Attributes of a Successful Candidate

    Education:High School Diploma or equivalent

    Experience:2 years of basic food service experience

    Job-Related Skills:Basic knife and food assembly

    Working Environment:

    Employees will work in a high-volume operation and will be subject to equipment that produces a great deal of heat, refrigerators and freezers work can be very cold. Noise levels are typically high. There are also wet floors, walls, and workstations.

    Physical Requirements:
    • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to use hands for repetitive tasks.
    • Must be able to lift between 21-50 pounds (Medium work).
    Any additional requirements specific to this position:
    • Ability to comprehend, perform, and explain complex verbal and written instructions and/or recipes.
    • Must have basic math skills.
