    Staff Engineer Aeronautical - Aero Science Test

    to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test and Evaluation organization. This role is located in

    Melbourne, FL

    In this role, you will work within the highly specialized Aero Science Test Team that would be responsible for the mechanical design and preliminary structural analysis of precision and complex test articles and systems that primarily support the acquisition of aerodynamic and propulsion data for development and validation of Northrop Grumman's advanced air vehicles.


    Key Responsibilities:
    Work with test articles ranging from sub to full scale, focusing on one area or the entire vehicle, and testing in environments to represent conditions at sea level to high altitudes

    Work as a key member of a team between engineering and fabrication -broader knowledge of engineering disciplines, test instrumentation, and advances fabrication capabilities and techniques is an asset


    Generate designs capable of efficient manufacture and assembly is a critical aspect to the role as nearly all articles are one-off and do not have the luxury of refinement and optimization typical of a production environment.

    Monitors and works within the allotted budget & schedule for their scope of the project and provides earned value and status reports to the Test Engineer or Project Manager on weekly basis and should be familiar with those basic principles

    Generate and present preliminary and critical design reviews (PDR / CDR) to a diverse audience.


    Some travel should be expected and will be required as the engineer typically travels with the test article to its test location and provides assembly guidance and intent.

    Basic Qualifications:


    Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math ( STEM) discipline AND 14 years of related professional/military experience, OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 12 years of related professional/military experience, OR a STEM Ph.

    D. AND 9 years of related professional/military experience

    Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)

    Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company

    Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment

    Must be willing and able to travel up to 25% of the time


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

    Experience with wind tunnel testing and low observable test planning

    CAD experience and proficiency in NX, knowledge of FEA tools and applications, to include modeling and drafting modules

    Engineering experience in an aerospace, mechanical, or test engineering environment

    Strong communication skills and ability to relay technical engineering findings to senior leadership

    Ability to work well within team; be adaptive and effectively communicate with various personality types

    Familiarity with Earned Value Management Systems


    Salary Range:
    $142,500 - $213,700


    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

    In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
