    Hours are days a week. Call 1 to 2 days a week and every 3-4 weekend.


    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • Assists in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiovascular and peripheral systems of patients to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disorders in the Cardiac Cath and EP Labs.
    • Provides quality patient care to patients undergoing invasive procedures.
    • Prepares patient for test and explains procedures.
    • Conducts tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular systems using a variety of specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, and laboratory instruments.
    • Anticipates possible problems or complications and responds appropriately.
    • Trains others in techniques and procedures used in the lab.
    • Processes all required documentation, has knowledge of all supplies and the contents of each stockroom.
    • Monitors and records patient's blood pressure and EKG during procedures, notifying physician of changes.
    • Circulates during procedures.
    • Circulating duties include patient education, alleviating fears, monitoring patient's condition, treating patient under physician direction, and assisting scrub person and physician.
    • Properly documents case events.
    • Scrubs and functions as first assistant to physician performing procedures.
    • Scrubs and acts as first assistant to physician performing invasive procedure.
    • Exhibits knowledge of sterile technique and of supplies and equipment used.
    • Serves as a preceptor for specific learning experiences and communicates learning needs of staff members to supervisor.
    • Teach general procedures to visitors, new personnel, cardiology fellows and other physicians, nursing and x-ray students.
    • Conducts unit staff development programs utilizing a variety of teaching strategies.
    • Actively participates in identifying areas of quality improvement and assists in collection of data, problem solving, implementation and evaluation.
    • Properly operated and calibrates interventional imaging equipment, single and biplane units.
    • Responsible for operating specialty equipment.
    • Maintains currency of annual competencies.
    • Maintains emergency equipment including oxygen, airways, ambu bags, suction equipment, temporary pacemaker and cardiac defibrillator.
    • Troubleshoots emergency equipment.
    • Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
    • Monitors imaging equipment for proper operation and notifies service personnel when problem is detected.
    • Follows guidelines for proper use of radiation safety exposure equipment.
    • Follows all safety requirements of the hospital and department.
    • Teaches general procedures to new personnel, cardiology fellows and other physicians, nursing and x-ray students and visitors.
    • Serves as preceptor to new staff.
    • Conducts unit staff development programs utilizing a variety of teaching strategies.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Licensed AEMT OR National Registered Paramedic (NRP) OR graduate of accredited school of radiologic technology OR accredited school of cardiovascular technology OR academic program in health sciences.

      • Registered as an ARRT with post primary category of cardiac interventional radiography or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist).

      • Certification in RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) or post primary category of cardiac interventional radiography preferred prior to employment or obtained within 18 months of employment as a condition of continued employment.

      • Able to wear lead aprons and stand for 80% of work time.

      • BLS and ACLS certification required.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

      ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

    SALARY RANGE: $26.50-$43.41/hr DOE
