    Summary



    The primary purpose of this position is to support the National Guard Special Victims' Counsel Program as a Regional Special Victims' Counsel attorney, providing legal advice and counsel for assigned clients in the most complex, often precedential, military courts martial and administrative military proceedings. The incumbent will provide legal advice related to crime victims' rights to eligible beneficiaries; represent assigned clients in military criminal and administrative proceedings.



    Duties

    • Represent qualifying victims through all phases of reporting, investigation, and command response, including administrative matters, military justice, and issues of reprisal or retaliation. Protect clients' privacy and advocate their interests to command and through investigative processes.
    • Provide legal assistance to assigned clients, consistent with Department of Defense, Chief National Guard Bureau Instructions, Army Regulations, Air Force Instructions (DoDI, CNGBIs, ARs, DAFIs) and SVC Program policy.
    • Provide training, outreach, and accomplish administrative tasks of case management, and maintain training requirements. Provide training and outreach to command leadership, JAG offices, National Guard members, SARCs/VAs, and community partners on the role of an SVC.
    • Carries out special projects and participates in special initiatives and studies. Performs special assignments in support of the organization; e.g., researching policy/precedent and comparing to new or modified guidelines to assess impact; analyzing and providing substantive evaluation of data affecting program operations; developing reports and briefings outlining study findings and recommendations; preparing and coordinating reference papers and documentation to support project initiatives; presenting reports to a variety of audiences; and performing analysis and providing recommendations to resolve issues.
