    POSITION SUMMARY


    The Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs plays an essential role in overseeing the administrative and business operations of the Dean's Office within the Graduate School.

    The Director, reporting directly to the Dean of the Graduate School, will be responsible for managing and directing administrative and business operations, implementing policies, and providing support to students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty members.


    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

    REQUIRED

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field
    • Six (6) years of directly related experience.
    • Three (3) years in supervisory/management capacity.
    • Applicants without the stated degree, but with significant additional related experience may be considered.

    PREFERRED

    • Master's degree in Business or a related field.
    • Eight (8) years directly related experience.
    • Four (4) years in supervisory/ management capacity.

    JOB DUTIES

    • Manages and directs administrative and business operations of the Dean's Office, developing and implementing administrative policies concerning students and postdoctoral scholars.
    • Represents the Dean in her absence. Responsible for reviewing, revising, and implementing internal procedures of the graduate school.
    • Assists administrative executives, department chairs/center directors, program chairs, program assistants and service departments (Registrar, HR, Budget, Payroll, Accounting, etc.) to interpret and enforce student and postdoctoral policies as well as providing advice on administrative matters or decisions which involve a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
    • Relieves the Dean of a variety of administrative duties, which involve a thorough understanding of graduate school functions, policy, and programs, as well as university wide functions, policies, and programs. Investigates issues to define and resolve problems.
    • Prepares the annual operating budget for the Graduate School and for the Dean's Office for approval of the Dean, including analyzing financial status, projecting income and expenditures, and allocating funding sources for associate and assistant deans and staff. Monitors budget, including income and expenditures. Assists program chairs and program assistants in financial matters pertaining to their programs.
    • Oversees preparation of complex reports to the State, and other agencies as required on various statistics regarding students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and programs of the graduate school. Assists with the SACS accreditation process and all other surveys tracking students and postdoctoral scholars.
    • Oversees the development and implementation of a database to assist in the tracking of all graduate school information especially regarding students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty and alumni.
    • Manages the annual merit review process for the dean's office, hiring and evaluating staff, and maintaining personnel records.
    • Interacts with International Office staff to trouble shoot student and postdoctoral scholar issues pertaining to visa status.
    • Responsible for reviewing and approving various forms and procedures on behalf of the Dean.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
