Staff Accountant - McGregor - Allied Steel Buildings

Job Summary: 

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the accounting and financial operations of the manufacturing facility. This position is ideal for an experienced staff accountant, bookkeeper, or accounts payable specialist who can maintain accurate accounting records, support GAAP-compliant reporting, and ensure strong internal controls. The staff accountant will collaborate closely with accounts payable, operations, and management teams to support all aspects of manufacturing accounting and financial reporting.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management and Reporting

• Prepare and maintain Profit and Loss statements and Balance Sheet schedules to support accurate financial reporting.
  

• Assist the Plant Controller with monthly accounting close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  

• Maintain accurate general ledger accounting records and supporting schedules.
  

• Support revenue recognition and cost of goods sold (COGS) accounting in compliance with GAAP.
  

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting reports for internal management review.
  

• Support financial analysis and reporting for operational and executive decision-making.
  

Cashflow and Banking

• Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly cash flow forecasts related to project-based manufacturing operations.
  

• Work closely with the accounts payable team as a staff accountant, reviewing vendor invoices and preparing vendor payments. Support bookkeeping activities to ensure accurate accounts payable records and timely vendor settlements.
  

• Verify that all accounts payable approvals and financial controls are properly followed.
  

• Escalate unusual or high-value vendor payments to the Plant Controller when required.
  

• Maintain intercompany and bank account transfers to support operational cash flow needs.
  

Tax and Compliance

• Assist with preparation and filing of sales tax, use tax, and property tax returns in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  

• Support internal and external financial audits by gathering accounting documentation and financial records.
  

• Ensure compliance with GAAP accounting standards and company financial policies.
  

• Maintain organized accounting records and documentation for regulatory and audit purposes.
  

Inventory and Cost Accounting

• Support manufacturing cost accounting and inventory management activities.
  

• Assist with inventory valuation for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
  

• Perform variance analysis by comparing actual costs to budgeted or standard costs.
  

• Analyze cost drivers and identify opportunities for operational and financial improvements.
  

• Work with operations teams to strengthen inventory control procedures and cost tracking.
  

Internal Controls and Process Improvement

• Assist the Plant Controller with maintaining internal accounting controls and financial procedures.
  

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  

• Support compliance with corporate financial policies and accounting best practices.
  

Additional Responsibilities

• Monitor budget compliance for procurement and purchasing activities.
  

• Assist with purchase requisition reviews and cost center coding accuracy.
  

• Support financial coordination between accounting, procurement, and operations teams.
  

• Perform other accounting, staff accountant, accounts payable, or bookkeeper duties as assigned to support accurate financial operations and reporting.
  

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Experience: 2+ years in accounting roles such as staff accountant, bookkeeper, or accounts payable specialist, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial setting. Prior experience as a staff accountant managing accounts payable and general ledger functions is highly desirable.
  

• Experience in manufacturing accounting, cost accounting, or inventory accounting is strongly preferred.
  

• Certifications: Candidates with a CPA, CMA, or with a desire to pursue licensure are encouraged to apply
  

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. 
  

• Understanding of GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
  

• Experience with accounts payable processes, bookkeeping, and general ledger accounting.
  

• Familiarity with manufacturing cost accounting and inventory management.
  

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and accounting software systems.
  

• Experience using Google Workspace, CRM platforms, or ERP/accounting systems is beneficial.
  

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  

• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  

• Spanish language proficiency is a plus but not required.
  

This role is ideal for candidates with experience as a staff accountant, bookkeeper, or accounts payable specialist, supporting accurate financial reporting, inventory and cost accounting, and GAAP-compliant manufacturing operations.

Work Schedule: 

• Full-time: Standard day shift, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, with flexibility to support production needs.
