    Description
    SUMMARY:Performs mammography examinations, patient education, quality control, and various computer assignments as required. Responsible for performing all general radiologic procedures with minimal supervision. Contributes to the quality of patient care delivered, and take an active role in evaluating and improving care. Exhibits a patient–centered medical home approach to care delivery by working to improve the quality and efficiency of patient services.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Responsible for the operation of radiological equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the physician. Review and integration of pertinent patient history and clinical data; then produces, records and processes mammographic images for interpretation by the radiologist. Provides direct patient care to patients.
    • Operates X-ray equipment and performs various mammography related procedures. Develops and evaluates the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion. Explains procedures and educates women about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
    • Prepares and maintains records and files, and cleaning and adjusting equipment as needed. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
    • Arranges patients for radiological examinations. Produces radiographs (x-rays) to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Prevents patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
    • Positions patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by Physician. Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtains patient cooperation.
    • Moves x-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance. Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
    • Conduct/complete referral forms and patient x-ray logs. Completes all required documentation on the same day as event requiring the documentation.
    • Performs clerical duties (e.g. maintaining records, generating and sending communications and reports, maintaining databases, entering data, faxing, answering phones, filing, etc.) completely, accurately and within established time frames.
    • Assists in preparing the patient for examination by medical staff, assists during the examination as needed;
    • Assists in the general cleanup and maintenance of the patient examination rooms, work-up area and equipment;
    • Participates in continuing education on and off-site as appropriate and feasible;
    • Participates in performance and training of OSHA Infection Control and Safety and adheres to the policies and procedures;
    • Performs other necessary duties as required by the corporation to meet the goals of providing primary health care services.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Successful completion of required mammography course and Advanced Mammography Board Certification. Current and ongoing compliance with the ACR and MQSA requirements for quality standards, continuing education and continuing experience. Availability to work Saturdays and/or evening hours as required.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Completion of approved American College of Radiology Radiologic Technologist Program. Completion of a two year training program in Diagnostic Radiology from an accredited school. Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) with Advanced Level Mammography Certification required. Two years of experience in primary health care setting, preferred. Two (2) years radiology experience.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) Licensed. Requires completion of a formal radiologic technology training program in an A.M.A. approved school, is certified in Diagnostic Mammography, and has at least two years of experience in radiology. American Heart Association BLS.
