    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS


    This is a newly created departmental Ophthalmic Technician 2 position that will support our acute eye care program within the triage and acute care eye teams.

    DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    Harborview's Eye Institute is housed among the region's only Level I Trauma Center.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    Assist and/or perform complex clinical diagnostic eye examinations and procedures as delegated by the ophthalmology, optometry, and acute eye care teams

    Participate in clinic and selected divisional activities to promote improved patient care delivery, problem-solving, communication and professional development for self and others

    Complete appropriate intake of phone calls and electronic messages related to patients' acute eye care concerns and use established guidelines, and/or Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist input, to direct patients to medically appropriate eye care in a timely and compassionate manner

    Work with the acute eye care medical team to develop and maintain a high-quality acute eye care program for the UW Medicine Eye Institute Service that prioritizes responsiveness, timeliness, compassion, and above all: safety

    Complete all ophthalmic imaging tests as ordered by the physicians such as: Amsler tests; Stereo tests; Applanation tonometry; Togopen; Exophthalmometry; Visual Field-Goldman; Visual Field-Humphrey; Ishihara Color Vision Test; Keratometry; Lensometry; Ocular motility measurements; and Practical microbiology

    Perform complex clinical diagnostic eye imaging and procedures within scope of certification: patient intake activities; routine technical procedures; administer topical medications; assist with procedures; Demonstrates general laser precautions; dispenses contact lenses; provide patient education; demonstrate age-specific patient interaction; and triage patient telephone calls

    Demonstrate proactive, professional communication across and within department to facilitate smooth workflow, and to ensure department is positively represented throughout the organization


    REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
    Completion of an approved ophthalmic technician program and one year of experience; Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

    Equivalent education/experience
