POSITION DUTIES

This position provides MSDE database administrative functions for the various databases utilized by the Department, especially Oracle, DB2, and SQL databases.\r

Duties Include:\r

\r
Performs application and database development functions as to analyze requirements, design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain department's applications and databases in a development, test, and production environments.\r
Creates databases, including developing data definitions and maintaining the repository of the department's databases.\r
Development of logical and physical database designs and ensures appropriate modifications to the design model.\r
Configure, tune, restructure, and troubleshoot database capacity of the department's databases.\r
Assist in the installation and implementation of database management system software and related software tools when needed.\r
Work with programmers and users for application deployments to ensure proper functionality of systems.\r
Data access security, including encrypting databases, and assist with disaster recovery, backup, and recovery for department's database.\r
Support general day-to-day data center operations and perform basic system administration tasks.\r
Extract, transform, and load (ETL) of data.\r
Work with MSDE security personnel to review security procedures.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Eight years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software.\r

1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology�for four years of the required experience.\r
2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for four years of the required experience.\r
3. Candidates may substitute experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by writing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.\r
4. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology and four years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for the required experience.\r
5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military�service experience as a commissioned officer in the�Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r
