- Bachelors' degree preferred or 60+ credits completed towards a bachelor's degree and agreeable to progress towards completing bachelor's degree.
- Experience working with "at risk" and/or behaviorally challenged students
- Knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behaviors and increasing more appropriate behaviors
- Knowledge of techniques needed to successfully implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Emergency Intervention Plans (EIP)
- Exceptional knowledge in the use of data to inform instruction and prescribe work plans for individual students
- Knowledge in research based instructional strategies and the ability to implement them effectively
- Knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction
- Demonstrates ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving student behavior
- Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality
- Demonstrates exceptional skill in the roles of a collaborator, action researcher, reflective practitioner, and learner advocate
- Must be able to withstand the strain of the position
- Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior, understanding principles of reinforcement, teaching new behavior, implementing strategies for weakening unwanted behavior, and identifying antecedents
- Attend team meetings with the identified student's teachers and paraprofessionals for the purpose of designing and monitoring Behavior Intervention Plans and supporting School-wide Positive Behavioral Support
- Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which "at risk" students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice
- Use ongoing data collection processes to maintain a record of student progress
- Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors
- Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive
- Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students, targeted students and students who represent sub-group populations
- Consult with the Behavior Interventionist, Dean, school social worker, building administrator, teachers, and paraprofessionals
- Attend professional development opportunities to maintain high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices
- Serve as a consultant to administrators, specialists and teachers
- Organize and schedule time commitments to meet demands of the job
- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures; report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve District, building, departmental and/or grade level goals
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
- Regular and punctual attendance is essential to the position

REPORTS TO: Lamphere Center Administration
COMPENSATION: $24.48 /hr.
DESCRIPTION: Highly qualified Behavior Intervention Assistant with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups and systems through the application of positive behavior supports. The Behavior Intervention Assistant supports the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans that address students' inappropriate behaviors and provide a means to support students to become more academically successful and functionally independent. The Behavior Intervention Assistant also provides support to classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Behavior Intervention Assistant works collaboratively with key support members to provide leadership and direction with the implementation of behavior support programs. In addition, the Behavior Intervention Assistant works directly and diligently with identified students to adopt behaviors that substantially increase their academic performance. Under the supervision of the building administration and the Behavior Interventionist, the Behavior Intervention Assistant will provide diversified strategies and activities specifically designed for targeted students.
