    Job Description

    Mission/ Position Description Summary

    The mission of a Lab Manager for HVJ, a leading specialty engineering firm in Texas, is to maintain quality standards of technical work performed within the operation and also be accountable for acquiring, mentoring, training, and maintaining appropriate resources to ensure execution of testing services performed for the geotechnical department. This includes responsibility for:

    • Performing inspections and testing in field as assigned
    • Meticulously documenting work performed in an organized fashion.
    • Providing support to Project Manager as directed.
    • Performing duties in a safe, cheerful, efficient and workman like manner.
    • Laboratory Management
    • Quality Management
    Other duties as requested by Operations including but not limited to performing lab tests, data entry, calculations, report preparation, managing accreditation, calibration and maintenance of equipment, managing proficiency samples, managing technician training.

    Additional Key Expectations
    • Ability to acquire related certifications (ACI, TXAPA Certifications, TXDOT certifications).
    • Complete defensive driving course and obtain certificate before driving company vehicles and repeat as necessary.
    • Responsible for making sure the laboratory has appropriate resources in place to execute testing per applicable standards. This includes but is not limited to acquiring and maintaining equipment, hiring and training new staff, valuating and training existing staff, cross training, review all reports, client coordination, resolving conflicts, coordination with other departments and administrative requirements.

    • Ability to lift concrete, soil, or asphalt samples as a routine part of the job
    • Ability to tolerate year round outdoor work and nighttime work
    • Valid Texas Driver's License with no history of accidents or alcohol/drug related traffic offenses
    • Ability to effectively manage staff
    • Ability to maximize production to quality and schedule standards and minimize staff overtime
    • Possess good communication skills and ability to work well with others
    • Provide accurate schedule of laboratory assignments in Weekly Department Meetings
