    VCU Health's Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism is seeking a physician leader to help provide superior, compassionate and innovative clinical care to our patients using state-of-the-art knowledge and resources and to conduct and disseminate clinical, research and scholarship within the subspecialty of Endocrinology, as well as to train future clinicians in the area of Endocrinology.

    Chief Purpose of this position: The Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) University School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Division Chair of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism within the Department of Internal Medicine. The school seeks a dynamic, strategic-minded individual with demonstrated leadership experience responsible for leading and growing the clinical, education, research and advocacy missions surrounding the prevention and care of patients with endocrine disorders. The Division includes faculty with interests in all areas of clinical endocrinology; faculty members are located at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and Central VA Medical Center.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Teaching - Oversee the teaching responsibilities of the division as a whole including interactions with medical students, residents, fellows, and other independent practitioners via continuing education. The Chair is expected to contribute to the teaching of these learners based on their expertise. In addition, the Chair will be expected to play a primary role in the mentoring of faculty and fellows in advancing their academic careers and supporting the efforts of other faculty as mentors.

    Research - In addition to their personal research activities, the Chair should develop interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the research program of the Division of Endocrinology and the Department of Internal Medicine. Specifically, the Chair should build relationships with the Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, the Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease & Metabolic Health, and other academic units to expand the academic impact of the Division. The Division Chair should develop and support the research activity of other faculty, fellows and residents in the area of endocrinology.

    Service | The Chair will oversee all administrative aspects of the division to ensure institutional goals are met for academic and financial performance. This includes management of day-to-day division operations, staffing, budget, and division programs. The Chair will serve on departmental, College, and/or University and Hospital committees as defined consistent with their expertise and authority.

    Clinical - The Chair will manage, and expand as necessary, the Endocrine Divisions multidisciplinary team which includes physicians, advanced practice providers, diabetes educators, and pharmacists in the clinical areas of:

    • Diabetes mellitus
    • Metabolic Syndrome
    • Thyroid disorders including thyroid cancer
    • Pituitary disorders
    • Adrenal disorders
    • Metabolic bone disease and calcium disorders
    • Male and female hypogonadism
    • Hyperandrogenemia
    • Obesity
    • Gender-affirming care

    Required Qualifications:

    • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree
    • Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism
    • Distinguished record of scholarship manifested by a strong publication record; nationally recognized for achievement in clinical research
    • Administrative leadership experience in an academic medical center
    • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Clinical and research expertise in metabolism, insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes mellitus
    • NIH Funded Investigator
    • Track record of effectively mentoring junior faculty
