    Lab Support Assistant - Microbiology

    Position Highlights:

    Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as a Lab Support Assistant - Microbiology (3rd Shift). This role will be great for someone that has a passion for Microbiology and great customer service for our internal customers and patients we serve. Those who have previous experience within a laboratory work experience or laboratory experience within a college or university settings are highly preferred but not required. Those also with future endeavors for MLS or Pre-Med are also highly preferred but not required.

    This role will be working on the COVID Testing area within the Microbiology area.

  • Responsible for processing and distributing of patient specimens for lab testing adhering to department standard operating procedures. May analyze, evaluate, and report patient results. May collect and transport patient specimens. Demonstrate behavioral skills that contribute to a productive work environment, represent the lab in a professional manner, and provide excellent customer service.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required.
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in clinical laboratory medicine preferred.
  • Direct patient care experience or completion of Phlebotomy course or Phlebotomy experience preferred (dependent on area of responsibility).
  • Post-secondary education in a laboratory or health-related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • Attention to detail preferred.
  • Ability to multitask preferred.
  • PBT (ASCP) depending on area of responsibility preferred.
