- Develop an understanding of congestion pricing, grid topology and power factors that contribute to real-time price formation (weather, dispatch, load, fuel, outages, transmission, etc.).
- Develop models and dashboards to help understand, forecast, and visualize power supply/demand balances
- Work closely with other power and gas analysts and traders in market view development.
- Provide ad hoc analyses for the trading desk and provide timely and tradable analyses
- Provide daily reports and participate in weekly meetings.
- Data mining and analysis to identify commercial trading and optimization opportunities.
- Understanding of power flow and power and natural gas market in North America.
- Experience with Optimal Power Flow (OPF) models or nodal market simulation tools (such as PowerWorld, PROMOD, UPLAN, GridView, GE MAPS, DAYZER, PLEXOS, Aurora etc.)
- Knowledge of data interaction or use of different data frameworks.
- Solid experience with report building and visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, etc.
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, or other quantitative discipline.
- Proficiency in Python, Visual Basic, Matlab, R and SQL or other analytical tools is strongly desired
- Analytics background, knowledge in simulation, optimization, statistics, options pricing theory
- Proficiency with data science, machine learning and deep techniques such as regression, classification, etc.
- Data visualization tools such as Tableau/PowerBI.

This is an opportunity to join a major energy company as Power Fundamentals Analyst. The role fits within the Commodities Analytics team where you will be working collaboratively with the traders and provide them with analysis that will help inform strategies.
You will also be building models that will have a direct impact to renewable generation projects, power flows in electric grids, predicting electricity market price and identifying potential trading opportunities. Other responsibilities include:
Requirements:
This role is based in downtown Houston and they work on a hybrid model. Compensation offered is in the region of $150,000-$200,000 with additional bonus compensation dependent on company performance.
