    Our transit services bring hard-working commuters to their jobs, students to their schools, and fun seekers to entertainment, shopping areas, and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTA's system includes 5 streetcar lines, 30 bus routes, 2 ferry routes, and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Supervises and manages a team and/or management processes including the full range of management duties
    • Recruits, interviews, hires, and appraises employees (performance evaluations) on their productivity
    • Delegates and oversees the daily workflow of the department
    • Motivates, guides, mentors, and coaches employees on their development
    • Recommends to senior management internal promotions and changes including discipline and terminations of employees by company policy
    • Performs other related duties as assigned
    JOB SUMMARY
    The Maintenance Manager supervises the staff in the maintenance and repair of public transit vehicles to help ensure smooth day-to-day operations and safety.
    Examples of Duties

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns preventive and remedial maintenance work for buses and automobiles or equipment production lines
    • Develops and maintains computer and manual files for payroll, attendance, project budgets, and vehicle service; prepares daily reports
    • Implements and maintains safety programs
    • Ensures compliance and promotes aspects of the Environmental Management System to employees and coworkers
    • Conducts meetings on safety, tool uses, equipment upgrade projects, and other related topics
    • Investigates and reports accidents and injuries
    • Follows up on ordered parts, equipment, and supplies, and administers warranty claims
    • Counsels subordinates on compliance with procedures, rules, and regulations
    • Conducts first-level disciplinary and grievance hearings
    • Analyzes component failures, identifies problems, plans repair and replacement schedules, and provides assistance to staff to remedy problems
    • Reviews Operator defect cards and sets the priority for repairs
    • Conducts meetings to determine user needs
    • Prepares various reports, develops presentations, and manages special development projects
    • Supervises and trains subordinates
    • Accounts for subordinate and personal compliance with all of RTA's safety rules, policies, and procedures
    • Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency's safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees
    • Approves completed work/repairs
    • Plans, organizes and coordinates service preparation activities for new buses

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION
    Bachelor's or Associates Degree in Engineering, Public or Business Administration, or a related field;

    OR: An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position's duties

    EXPERIENCE
    Four (4) to seven (7) years of relevant experience performing work in the repair and maintenance or procurement of vehicles and equipment, including a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience at or above the leader level

    LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS

    A valid Louisiana Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

    Must submit to a criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.
