    PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

    The Vice Chancellor (VC) – Student Retention and Completion, in close partnership with the Executive Vice Chancellor – Chief Student Experience Officer, advances the vision and strategic framework for student retention and completion at City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), guiding and enhancing a seamless, supportive, and empowering student experience from the time a student decides to enroll at CCC to graduation.

    The VC – Student Retention and Completion ensures the District's OSX effectively supports campus level student retention and completion efforts, working collaboratively with campus stakeholders to advance retention and completion outcomes, and working with the broader student experience team as well as academic affairs colleagues to ensure a positive and seamless experience throughout a CCC student's journey.

    The VC – Student Retention and Completion also develops, coordinates, and innovates the holistic elements of the CCC student experience in order to ensure a welcoming and inclusive community that supports the academic, personal, and career development of all students, thus encouraging students to persist and achieve their goals at CCC and beyond.

    As a senior leader in OSX, the VC – Student Retention and Completion is responsible for the implementation of CCC's Unified Strategic Initiatives supporting CCC's retention and completion key performance indicator (KPI) target achievement. Performs related duties as required.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Develops and implements a strategic framework to improve district-wide and college-level student retention and completion rates, with a focus on whole student development as well as aligning and integrating key strategic drivers of retention across CCC.
    • Collaborates with college administrators to establish best practice expectations for academic advising, student affairs, wellness, and holistic support services, with a goal of establishing and supporting best-in-class student services throughout every CCC student's college experience and achieving student retention and completion outcome targets.
    • Leads and establishes an academic advising model that emphasizes retention and completion through coaching, data-informed insights on student needs, and a seamless connection to holistic student supports.
    • Collaborates with Enrollment and Financial Aid leaders to ensure a seamless new student on-boarding experience and that financial aid operations are woven into holistic student supports.
    • Collaborates with Transfer Services and Career Services leaders to ensure academic advising, transfer advising, and career advising are effectively integrated to support students in achieving their academic, transfer, and career goals in a timely manner.
    • Oversees Wellness Centers and basic needs provision, collaborating with District leaders and college leaders to ensure students' mental health and holistic needs are met.
    • Strategically collaborates to ensure a positive student experience through student support, development, and engagement efforts such as Student Conduct policies and Veteran Centers, Student Government Associations, and additional student activities.
    • Supports advancement of first-year retention initiatives across colleges, including but not limited to First Year Experience.
    • Guides CCC-wide professional development related to Retention and Completion areas of practice, facilitating best practice sharing and the support of a professional learning community across colleges, so that best practices and outcome goals are achieved district-wide.
    • Designs and directs strategic inquiries that comprehensively evaluate the student experience and identify potentially hidden student barriers, fine-tune identification of at-risk students, and support strategies and initiatives that lead to continuous improvement of the student experience as well as retention and completion outcomes.
    • Supports and collaborates with the colleges' strategic planning, metric development, budget creation and student success targets tied to academic progress, retention, time to degree, and completion.
    • Provides thought partnership related to CCC's enterprise-wide coordinated care system that weaves faculty feedback, case management, appointment-setting, alerts, and other related functionalities.
    • Partners with the Chief Student Experience Officer and Chief of Staff on managing District partnerships with community organizations that share a commitment to student retention and completion.
    • Pursues an entrepreneurial and creative-problem-solving approach to ensuring that resources are aligned to strategic priorities of enhancing the student experience.
    • Advances a culture of care and hospitality throughout CCC to elevate the student experience.
    • Provides expert guidance on the intersection between curricular and co-curricular offerings that prepare students for transfer, career, leadership, and engagement in a democratic society.
    • Serves as senior district office leader for addressing student-facing concerns that present as CCC-wide matters.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    Reports To Executive Vice Chancellor-Chief Student Experience Officer

    Direct Supervision Exec Dir-Wellness, District Director-Student Affairs, Manager-Holistic Support

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Doctoral degree preferred.
    • Seven years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience in administering student services in an education setting
    • Progressive leadership experience in public higher education preferred
    • Experience working directly with students in a post-secondary context
    • Demonstrated leadership experience related to student retention, student success, and student customer service including fluency and currency with best practices in these areas
    • History of vision and strategic decision making based on data, best practices, and policy implications
    • Broad knowledge of higher education leadership, holistic student support, budgeting, strategic and operational planning, and personnel management
    • Demonstrated ability to lead in a multi-campus college environment
    • Ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including college leadership, faculty, and critical student services and academic support departments
    • Ability to work independently within a broad strategic framework and CCC priorities
    • Outstanding analytical skills and familiarity with systems and technologies that enhance strategic planning and evaluation
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills; team- oriented and student centric approach to all duties
    • Ability to work independently, utilize professional judgment, make sound decisions, and accept responsibility for decisions made
    • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
