    JOB SUMMARY

    We are seeking a PRN - Nuclear Medicine Technologist to coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    PATIENT CARE

    • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of patient of all ages during an examination, initiates life support measures for patient, if necessary.
    • Starts IV's for nuclear procedures.
    • Injects doses for rest and stress procedures.
    • Cardiac SPECT imaging of patients.
    • Performs EKG prep, tracing

    INSTRUMENT QUALITY CONTROL

    • Maintain inventory of supplies in assigned area; prepare and maintain records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing and disposal activities. Performs daily ambient exposure surveys.
    • Calibrate and draw up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients; Calibrate instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction. Calculate data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay.
    • Process computerized image data to include function curves and reconstructed SPECT images.
    • Evaluate recorded images for technical quality.
    • Work with Health physicist to make sure all hot lab equipment is working properly.
    • Monitor Nuclear Medicine Department with portable survey meter for possible contamination.
    • Assist in the development and evaluation of new procedures and techniques to meet the needs of specific protocols as required: consult with physician concerning the application of nuclear medicine procedures and techniques.
    • Backup of procedures and camera quality control.
    • Assist in quality assurance program relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment.

    CLERICAL

    • Maintain reports for the North Carolina Radiation Protection Commission, Joint Commission, and Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.
    • Maintain radiation badges and reports.
    • Review procedure manual yearly.
    • Build patient procedure reports in epic.
    • Work with health physicist in renewing Radiation License with state of North Carolina.
    • Update patient procedure reports for EPIC annually.

    SAFETY/EDUCATION

    • Maintain continuing education hours for certification.
    • Adhere to the radiation safety guidelines.
    • Train PRN Nuclear Technologist to cover department.
    • Maintain Duke required online safety classes.

    JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    • Requires successful completion of an AMA approved Nuclear Medicine Technology training program.
    • None required beyond above education/certification requirements.
      • Level I must obtain ARRT or NMCTB certification within 12 months of employment.
      • Level II Minimum of two years' experience as a Nuclear Medicine technologist.
      • Level III A minimum of four years' experience within specialty modality in which they are seeking promotion.
    • ARRT (N) certification and/or NMTCB certification within 12 months of employment.
    • BLS certification
