Our campus is located at 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118.
Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses.
Job Summary
This position provides custodial services support for university facilities. Assists Supervisor and Superintendent in delivering custodial supplies to buildings, overseeing, and directing custodial associates in everyday tasks as requested. Performs a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of classroom buildings, residence halls, offices, athletic facilities, dining halls, or other university buildings. Responsible for becoming familiar with all buildings and covers various buildings when custodial associates are absent from work. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating cleaning equipment, and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies. Duties may include performing housekeeping and floor maintenance tasks, operating laundry service machines, and performing special cleaning duties. Responsible for inputting CMMS time data when needed. Responsible for leading team meetings when needed. Responsible for special project work such as pressure washing, cleaning light fixtures or windows using a scissors lift or ladder. Demonstrates an understanding of and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Job Summary
Tasks involve trash removal; cleaning and polishing of various furniture, table, and glass surfaces; sweep, mop, vacuum, strips, restores, wax, and buffs various floor surfaces. Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags and dust mops. Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments. Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Assists Supervisor and Superintendent in delivering custodial supplies to buildings, collecting trash/recycling, overseeing and directing custodial associates in everyday tasks as requested. Identifies cleaning problems and determines appropriate remedies. Recognizes and follows prescribed safety procedures and regulations. Must be familiar with all building requirements and provide absentee coverage. Respond to emergency needs such as spills, toilet overflows, water leaks, and other duties as assigned. Submit work orders.
Lead and assist supervisor with training and administrative duties, scheduling assignments and entering time into the CMMS system, and perform inspections for employees. Conduct peer/employee training when deemed appropriate. Work alone or with a team in various buildings when custodial associates are absent from work.
Work special events (varied hours and weekends) with minimal supervision and determine the necessary tasks to be performed. Assists in supervising custodial associates and intermediates. Operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, pressure washers, walk behinds, scissor lifts and ride-on scrubbers. Recognizes and obtains required tools, equipment, materials, and supplies needed to do the job. Recognizes and follows prescribed safety procedures and regulations.
Participates in department-provided training and learning opportunities to develop work-related skills and abilities. Completes all required training on a timely basis. Attend safety meetings and other related meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. Enforce and support policies established by Facilities Development & Sustainability.
Required Qualifications
Required Education
High School diploma or GED.
Required Experience
High School diploma or GED equivalent. A valid driver¿s license is required. Two or more years of institutional, industrial or commercial custodial experience. Basic computer skills.

One year of custodial lead experience in an institutional, industrial, or commercial environment. Custodial Technician certification or similar certification in custodial professional development. Experience in troubleshooting and repairing floor care equipment.
Proposed Salary
$18.25 Hourly. Paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Knowledge
Basic knowledge of the operation and use of equipment and tools used in the care and cleaning of buildings. Basic knowledge of custodial services, practices, techniques, and procedures. Must be able to operate a computer and utilize email.
Skills and Abilities
Must be able to operate various cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, pressure washers, walk behind, scissor lifts, and ride-on scrubbers. Customer service skills to effectively listen and respond to customer needs and understand the role of the customer in the work environment. Communicate with fellow workers in a manner that allows work to be completed. Adapt to changing job conditions. Must be able to complete tasks efficiently within a designated time frame and to learn procedures and retain information. Valid driver¿s license required. Must have leadership skills and be able to assist Supervisor and Superintendent with training and administrative duties. Respond according to standard operating procedures, displaying a positive demeanor and helpful attitude at all times. Observe quality and condition of the facilities, report or correct deficiencies, and contribute to continuous improvement and high standards of quality. Always courteous and helpful with building occupants, i.e. greets the building occupants, and can answer their questions and/or refer them to the appropriate person. Abilities: Must be able to work special events (varied hours and weekends) with minimal supervision and determine the necessary tasks to be performed. Interact with others in the work area in a manner that encourages accomplishment of work tasks and ability to work as part of a team. Listen to instructions and ask necessary questions to complete tasks. Ability to perform physical labor tasks for extended periods. Safely operate a variety of hand and power tools while performing technical tasks with an eye for detail. Understand verbal and written instructions.
