- Oversee daily horse care routines for up to 72 horses, including feeding, turnout, stall care, and health monitoring; coordinate treatment plans in consultation with the Equestrian Center Coordinator.
- Monitor and report equine health conditions, ensuring timely communication and implementing Equestrian Center Coordinator- and/or veterinary-directed treatment plans; support documentation and follow-through on care protocols.
- Train, supervise, and mentor student workers and staff on horse care standards, safe horse handling, tack use, lesson preparation, feeding systems, and daily barn routines.
- Operate and supervise the use of tractors, trailers, and maintenance equipment to support arena preparation, pasture management, fence checks, minor repairs, and overall facility upkeep.
- Participate in the evaluation, selection, and onboarding of new horses, including hands-on involvement in assessments, acclimation tasks, and integration into program routines.
- Manage inventory and supply coordination, including hay, grain, bedding, equipment, and operational supplies; communicate with Equestrian Center Coordinator and vendors to support uninterrupted facility operations.
- Support administrative processes, including billing-related tasks, supply ordering, purchasing coordination, and recordkeeping tied to stable operations.
- Maintain a professional facility environment, including conducting tours for prospective students, boarders, families, and visitors; represent the Equestrian Center with consistent service and program information.
- Aid during equine emergencies, including euthanasia support, calm communication, and safety management.
- Maintain and enforce safety protocols, biosecurity practices, and facility standards to ensure a safe and effective learning and working environment.
- Teach up to 4 equitation (EQT) classes per year, as assigned, across any rider level.
- Assist with instructional activities for camps, clinics, and other equine education programs.
- Contribute to course discussions, assessment processes, and refinement of equine instructional practices.
- Support student learning experiences that integrate equine handling, horse selection/evaluation, safety practices, and foundational stable skills.
- Equine Care Expertise: Strong knowledge of horse health, nutrition, behavior, and stable management best practices.
- Operational Leadership: Ability to lead daily stable operations with organization, efficiency, and attention to safety.
- Instructional Ability: Demonstrated skill in teaching equitation and foundational horsemanship across rider levels.
- Student Mentorship: Commitment to fostering a supportive, student-centered learning environment through training and supervision of student workers.
- Safety & Risk Management: Knowledge of biosecurity standards, emergency response procedures, and safe equipment operation.
- Communication & Collaboration: Clear, professional communication and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and veterinary partners.
- Professionalism: Represents the program with integrity, composure, and a strong commitment to ethical horsemanship.
- This is a full-time, exempt position aligned with the College's standard 40-hour workweek.
- Work schedules may vary based on departmental and institutional needs. Flexibility is essential, and employees may be asked to adjust their schedule to meet operational needs.
- Exempt employees are expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support College events, trainings, or time-sensitive responsibilities.
- Travel is infrequent and limited to occasional local events or program needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Equine Studies or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional horse care experience.
- Demonstrated riding proficiency and experience teaching in equine education settings.
