- Cultivate a team of experts committed to enhancing their field.
- Identify, gather, and provide necessary guidance and resources to fulfill requirements.
- Collaborate with the planning and operations lead to establish workflows, enhance business processes, and promote transparency within the communications division.
- Partner with the managing editor to drive excellence in visual and technical communications across various platforms and products.
- Develop efficient methods, processes, and tools to support content production and quality assurance; propose innovative approaches, policies, and procedures for continuous enhancement.
- Prioritize projects to manage department capacity and deadlines effectively.
- Lead the creation of editorial guidelines, style guides, and other resources to standardize and reinforce the PNNL brand voice.
- Ensure the usability, consistency, brand alignment, audience-focused tone, and overall quality of final deliverables.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and internal teams to ensure that each communications project aligns with the Lab's strategy, resonates with the target audience, encourages desired actions, and meets stakeholders' objectives and expectations.
- BS/BA and 10 years of experience -OR-
- MS/MA or higher and 8 years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, English, journalism, or related field.
- Experience leading the creative or editorial function of a science or technology company, national laboratory, major scientific publication, university, or similar organization.
- Strong attention to detail and a dedication to quality.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in cross-organizational planning, workflow management, schedule maintenance, and deadline enforcement.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a focus on delivering excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of strategic communications principles.
- Proven track record of leading successful large teams of writers and editors.
