Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Oncology night shift position requiring NE or compact RN license and strong med/surg skills.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 21-bed Med/Surg-Oncology unit within an acute care setting
• Typical patient ratios are 1:5 with patient population primarily general med/surg and post-operative cancer intervention cases
• Night shifts are 12 hours, three shifts per week
• Weekend coverage required every third weekend
• Rotating holiday coverage is required
• Floating may be required, but only to other medical/surgical units and is rare
• Central telemetry monitoring is utilized and RNs are expected to identify changes in patient condition
• Medications administered include titratable drips such as heparin, lidocaine, and TPN
• EMR system used is Epic and experience is preferred
• Travelers will not be required to administer chemotherapy
• Must pass a skills exam with a score of at least 90% during orientation; failure to pass will result in contract termination
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas and refusal to comply may result in termination
• Navy scrubs are required for this unit
• Charge nurse and house supervisor support are available
• Occasional assistance from nurse aides is dependent on unit needs
• Unit-based specific orientation will be provided
• First time travelers may be considered

Requirements

• Active NE or compact RN license is required at the time of consideration
• Minimum of 2 years of recent med/surg nursing experience required
• Current BLS (AHA) certification is required
• Good communication, accurate documentation, timeliness, and patient-centered care skills are essential
• Ability to titrate IV drips including heparin, lidocaine, and TPN
• Driver's license is required for employment eligibility and to confirm distance from facility
• Must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
• Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and eligibility for rehire
