Job description
Division of Prevention SciencePart Time
88099BR
Job Summary
The Project Coordinator will work on three NIH-funded studies based at DPS, Mission Hall, 550 16th Street, San Francisco.
Project 1:
"Adapting an effective intervention for enhancing engagement in HIV care to meet the needs of key populations in India." Key populations are more likely to be infected with HIV, but less likely to be virally suppressed than members of the general population living with HIV and research shows that this is at least partly due to the multiple stigmas that act as barriers to engagement in care. This 3-year study seeks to address this problem by adapting and pilot testing, via a randomized controlled pilot trial, a culturally appropriate, comprehensive wellness program that incorporates peer navigation, to improve engagement in HIV care among men who have sex with men and transgender women in India.
Project 2:
"A combined motivational interviewing and behavioral couples therapy intervention to reduce intimate partner violence and alcohol use in South India." Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) often worsens Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and both cause significant negative health impact. In this 5-year project, we conduct a randomized controlled trial to test a combination of two behavioral interventions, motivational interviewing (MI) and behavioral couples therapy (BCT), which were shown to be acceptable, feasible and have preliminary efficacy in our previous pilot study, to reduce both alcohol abuse and IPV. A further goal is to assess the mechanisms to which the intervention brings about change via the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
Project 3.
"Secondary Cervical Cancer Prevention of Vulnerable Women with HPV and HIV Co-infection in India" The comprehensive ASHA-Health HPV intervention builds on our previous highly successful and long-term US-Indo collaboration with UC Irvine and the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore, India.
The previous nurse-led "Asha-nutrition" intervention has been adapted to improve nutritional status, HPV testing and engagement in care among women living with HIV in rural Karnataka.
The Project Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigators and the study statistician to assist in creating and monitoring the study protocols and quality control procedures, assist in the development of study measures, assist with the interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data, conduct literature reviews, and prepare human subjects applications for the Institutional Review Board.
The Project Coordinator will also assist in dissemination activities, such as helping to develop manuscripts for publication, posters, and presentations of study findings.
NOTE:
This is a 50% Part time Career role.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

The research focus is risk behavior and reduction; epidemiology of the virus; evaluation of HIV testing procedures, demographic variables and sexual self-identification; and training for providers who care for HIV AIDS patients.
