- Review of civil, architectural, and structural plans and specifications in preparation for field site visits and observations
- Documenting field activities, observations, and construction materials testing results on projects
- Daily use of Metafield, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems
- Testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and masonry mortar/grout on construction projects for compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, and/or project specifications
- Communication of field and laboratory observations and testing results with Construction Services and Geotechnical Project Management staff, general contractors, and clients
- Assisting Project Management staff with review of field data, disposition of identified construction discrepancies, and preparation of formal reports
- Preparation of field and laboratory cost estimates and proposals in accordance with projects plans and specifications, International Building Code (IBC) requirements, and client-provided requests for proposals
- You have or will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Construction related field, or appropriate technical field, within 6 months
- You have at least 2 years of experience with field and/or laboratory geotechnical/construction materials testing
- You have any of the following certifications with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) certification:
- Field Testing Grade I
- Strength Testing Technician
- Laboratory Technician
- You have effective communication and writing skills using the English language
- You are wiling to obtain International Code Council (ICC), and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications in the fields of aggregate, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, and masonry
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain
- Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
