    LIVING AND RELOCATION ALLOWANCE:
    Weekly Stipend: $665.00
    Relocation Allowance: $400.00

    POSITION DESCRIPTION
    The position would be within the Abandoned Mineral Lands Program. Duties would include managing and making updates to the AML Database including calling individual Parks and reviewing 'archival' AML Data. The SIP intern would also be tasked with assessing and designing mitigation for an unstable quarry highwall or another hazardous AML Feature under the guidance of a licensed engineer. This would ideally require a site visit to a Park to assess, inventory, and map the hazardous feature and surrounding area.

    POSITION IMPACT
    This physical science position would address a geologic hazard.

    DELIVERABLES

    Updated database with a goal to update 15% of the database. A technical design memo with recommendations for the mitigation of an AML hazard.

    DESIRED INTERN QUALIFICATIONS

    Applicants should be advanced undergraduate or graduate students whose educational background and career objectives are in geology, engineering, or data management. Applicants must have completed basic undergraduate course work toward a degree in engineering with a focus on geology, have strong leadership and team building skills, and the ability to work with a diverse workforce. Experience with data management and basic understanding of mining terminology will be useful. Previous experience with the basics of geotechnical engineering is required.

    The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. legal permanent resident ("Green Card holder"). Prior to starting this position, a government security background clearance will be required. The applicant must be available to participate for 26 Weeks in order to be considered and participate.

    WORK SETTING
    The majority of the work would be done in the office setting of the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood, CO. Lakewood is a Denver suburb along the foothills and the fifth most populous city in Colorado. Lakewood is at an elevation of 5,518 feet and has average temperatures range from 32 to 73 degrees.

    VEHICLE AND DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
    • Applicant will not need to drive a government vehicle.
    • A personal vehicle is recommended for this position.
    HOUSING
    Park housing is NOT available. The intern will be responsible for finding housing in the nearby area. There are a number of apartment complexes near the office. Rent is listed between $1,500 and $2,000 per month.
