    Description


    Technical stewardship of all Company manufacturing processes and equipment; investigate, recommend and deploy new and/or improved manufacturing technologies to improve product quality and/or reduce manufacturing costs.

    Effective in fast-paced and highly multitasked situations. Target-oriented approach and driven to achieve results.

    Supports manufacturing continuous improvement activities; provides appropriate tactical support to Manufacturing to maintain the required flow of high-quality product and make necessary modifications to achieve established performance goals.

    Manages manufacturing work instructions, line layout drawings, and procedures through team members for accurate documentation of processes, improvements to operations, and training of operators

    Supports site EHS and Quality activities through executing investigations, developing and implementing corrective/preventive actions, and maintaining lockout/tagout instructions for equipment.

    Manages, either directly or indirectly through subordinates, a variety of projects having to do with the successful deployment/improvement of processing technology into Manufacturing.

    Monitors projects' progress and prepares periodic reports for Leadership. Ensures that projects are completed within established quality, time frame and budgetary parameters. Conducts/documents project meetings; communicates status, issues, schedules, risks and risk mitigation strategies. Conducts constructive post-mortem analyses of completed projects.
    Develops project budgets; reviews/recommends collected cost estimates and proposes well-thought and justifiable requests for project funding. Plans and manages spending against all approved Request for Assets (RAs) associated with new projects.
    Plans and directs Team activities and establishes project and task priorities; promptly resolves conflicts; drives consensus.
    Drives the development of Staff to become knowledge experts in particular Manufacturing process/technologies to which assigned.

    Confers with Product Design staff to ensure proper alignment between product design the attendant manufacturing processes, focusing on the attainment of required CpK values and on the associated manufacturing cost goals.

    Researches available technologies with the objective of improving product quality, reducing cost or increasing employee safety; develops sensible plans to evaluate, implement and then to audit the efficacy of completed technology improvement projects.

    Develops departmental budget and procedures to ensure departmental efficiency and effectiveness. Reviews and approves monthly Department Expense Reports.
    Sets standards for machine/equipment specifications, designs, buyoff criteria, drawings and other as-required documentation.
    Performs other duties as required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Leads Manufacturing Engineering individual contributors, directly or through subordinates
    Interviews, hires, fires and evaluates department personnel.
    Provides positive and negative feedback to employees verbally and in writing. Conducts or participates in annual performance review for employees.
    Facilitates good working relationships among subordinates.
    Provides guidance and leadership to department personnel to help them effectively plan work, direct team activities and establish priorities. Plans and maintains a continual work schedule for department personnel.
    Ensures department personnel receive appropriate training/coaching to meet and exceed job expectations. Identifies, recruits and develops employees as future leaders, including succession planning.
    Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline
    Ten or more years' experience in supervisory position utilizing a combination of technical and leadership expertise
    Significant experience with machine design (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, dies, PC and PLC technologies) concepts and their practical application in a high volume, high mix manufacturing environment
    Experience with managing expense and capital budgets
    Demonstrated experience in project management
    Familiarity with ergonomics and basic Industrial Engineering concepts (line balancing and process modeling)
    Knowledge and application of structured problem solving methodologies

    Good working knowledge of typical manufacturing processes, including roll forming, die cutting, aluminum and plastic extrusion, injection molding, manual and automated assembly.

    Practical experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts and their implementation.
    Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and AutoCAD (Inventor preferred).
