    Position Summary

    This is a seasonal position with the Attleboro YMCA, a leading non-profit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Health Specialist provides oversight for the health care needs of campers and staff.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Attend to and treat ill and injured campers and staff.
    • Maintain medical supplies and first aid kits and monitor inventory to ensure sufficient supply.
    • Receive camper medications from parents/guardians and return upon check-out.
    • Maintain medical records and camper medications in a secure location.
    • Dispense camper meds as indicated.
    • Complete incident and injury reports promptly and submit to Camp Director.
    • Coordinate transportation of campers to hospital with Camp Director when necessary.
    • Offer suggestions to Camp Director on ways to make camp a safer place for children and staff.
    • Communicate with parents/guardians promptly regarding illness, injury, and general health issues.
    • Attend all mandatory YMCA staff meetings, team meetings and staff trainings.
    • Abide by all camp and YMCA policies & procedures.
    • Actively promote camp and the Attleboro YMCA.
    • Assist with other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Must be at least 20 years old
    • Must have completed 2 years of 4-year nursing program or be a licensed practical nurse
    • Previous experience working with children in a day camp setting is preferred
    • Must be certified in CPR and First Aid
    • Ability to stay calm and respond effectively in an emergency
    • Quick and effective decision-making skills and strong communication skills
    • A positive, friendly attitude and strong interpersonal skills
    • Must be detail-oriented and able to communicate accurate information in a timely manner
    • A high level of maturity and responsibility
      • Must maintain confidentiality of camper and staff health information

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time and in extreme weather conditions
    • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling and walking
    • Ability to speak concisely and communicate effectively
    • Maintain high-level of physical and mental readiness
