    Overview

    As an Occupational Therapist (OT) at St.

    Joseph Health, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health, you'll help our patients regain their independence and quality of life so they can safely go about their daily activities.


    You'll work alongside physicians, physical therapists, speech therapists, and other health professionals to assess patients, develop a plan of care, and carry out their treatment plan.

    You'll see a variety of patients daily with issues in several areas, including orthopedic, neurological, sensory, and cancer recovery, to name a few.

    You'll evaluate and re-evaluate patients and provide physicians with updates on improvements to the patient's daily life. You're truly the bridge between physical therapy and speech therapy.

    To thrive in this role, you must be flexible and adaptable. You'll care for all patient populations presenting with a variety of conditions. You need to be extremely organized and efficient. You'll see many patients each workday and will be required to document all evaluations, treatments, and status changes. Most importantly, you must be positive, personable, and motivating.

    While the entire care team works to treat illnesses and injuries, therapists truly motivate patients to get active and get better.

    It can be a long road for some patients, and a therapist who remains upbeat and energetic can make all the difference.

    Responsibilities


    • Evaluates/assesses patients in a systematic and thorough manner; establishes appropriate treatment plans and goals within specified time frames; administers appropriate treatments to patients; demonstrates knowledge and skill in the use of therapeutic exercise and activities, manual techniques, transfers, activities of daily living, modalities, and rehabilitation equipment
    • Instructs and supervises patient care of OT assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and student affiliates in a respectful, courteous and consistent manner
    • Maintains timely and accurate medical records; records legibly in patient charts; completes reports in an organized, thorough and timely manner
    • Fosters communication with patients and families, other therapists, physicians, nurses, volunteers, and other hospital personnel to achieve goals and establish department support; attends and provides quality input during multidisciplinary rounds and departmental meetings
    • Provides patient and family education; includes information on outside resources to meet the patient's specific needs
    Qualifications


    • Bachelor Degree; Major in Occupational Therapy or other Occupational Therapy related field required.
    • Licensed by the State of Texas- Occupational Therapist required.
    • Certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) required.
    • American Heart Association CPR/BLS Certified required.
