DescriptionSUMMARY
Functions as a skilled level technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
- Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Properly documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road tests vehicles when required.
- Participates in manufacturer and dealer training programs, achieving certification levels as directed by management
- Communicates with customers when requested.
- Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keeps shop area neat and clean.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
- Maintains professional appearance.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Technician must be able to diagnose vehicle issues and carry out maintenance and repairs as prescribed by the manufacturer's repair instructions. Work must be completed in a timely manner without compromising accuracy and thoroughness. A technician must always look out for their own safety, the safety of fellow employees, and the safety of the customer's vehicle. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Jaguar Land Rover Level 2 Certification
or
- In process of obtaining Jaguar Land Rover Level 2 Certification and one year as an apprentice technician
TECHNOLOGICAL APTITUDE
- General computer, email, and word processing skills
- Proficiency in using several software and web-based systems, such as the Dealership's Management System, the Manufacturer's online service portals, and the dealership's shop efficiency system.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic systems, tools, and procedures as mandated by the Manufacturer and/or dealership
- Proficiency in technological knowledge commensurate with a Jaguar Land Rover Level 2 certified technician
- Ability to absorb, retain, and demonstrate vehicle technology information
- Ability to become quickly proficient in using the basic features of the dealership's telephone system (i.e. answering calls, transferring calls, putting calls on hold, etc.)
LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Ability to communicate courteously, professionally, and effectively in person, through email, and over the telephone.
- Ability to effectively explain issues and repairs to both customers and internal dealership personnel.
- Ability to write thorough, clear, and accurate notes of diagnosis, maintenance, and repair work
- Ability to accurately complete all required documentation, such as Certified Pre-Owned inspection checklists, multi-point inspections, and pre-delivery inspections.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to memorize and understand mathematical equations and procedures relating to diagnosis and repair work.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, ratios, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply calculations to practical situations.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to interpret a variety of complex instructions furnished in written and oral form.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Ability to solve practical problems
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a multiple abstract and concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to prioritize tasks to meet customer service and dealership standards.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Valid Driver's License
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification is a bonus
- Smog certification is a bonus
Post Hire:
- Compliance and Environmental Health and Safety training (as directed by management)
- Continuing Manufacturer training certification (as directed by management)
