    An exempt position with clinical duties. This person will function as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the department of surgery. This involves facilitating the care of surgical patients, responding to new consultations, and act as the liaison between surgeon, patient, and clinical team.

  • Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors
  • Conducts physical exams, assesses health status, orders and interprets tests, prescribes medications, and treat illnesses.
  • Consult with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA's Scope of Practice
  • Round on surgical inpatients and facilitate the appropriate care
  • Ability to assist in surgical procedures is preferred
  • Write notes and consultations on patients seen
  • Attend Multi-disciplinary rounds and team discharge rounds
  • Consult on surgical patients both on the floor and ER
  • Consult appropriate specialties as seen fit
  • Monitors therapies and provides continuity of care
  • Triage patient calls and evaluates patient's problems and concerns. Responds to emergencies including use of CPR
  • Counsels patient/family on health care matters
  • Documents patient information and care in the medical record, in a confidential manner, and may maintain departmental statistical database for research and quality purposes
  • Familiar with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine and physical diagnosis
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
  • Nurse Practitioner:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school (highly recommended)
  • Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Current NYS certification as a Nurse Practitioner (either Adult/Geriatric).
  • Maintains a current collaborative practice agreement.
  • Current National Certification
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) highly recommended
  • Proficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills approved in the delineation of privileges
  • Physician Assistant:

  • Current New York State Licensed Physician Assistant
  • Current National Certification
  • Current White Plains Hospital Physician Assistant DOP
  • Master's degree from an accredited school (highly recommended)
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) highly recommended
  • Proficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills approved in the delineation of privileges

  • Essential Physical Requirements

  • Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting and lifting.
  • May require transferring patients.
  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
