    Job Duties

    VDOT is seeking a qualified applicant for the position of Facilities Specialist (HVAC) in the Salem District.

    This position is responsible to complete work orders and other tasks related to construction, maintenance, repair, and renovations of VDOT facilities, structures, and equipment, ensuring work complies with plans and specifications, shop drawings, industry standards, and applicable codes and regulations.

    Will administer and oversee work performed by facilities contractors to ensure contractual requirements are met.

    Will prepare necessary paperwork to document in-house and contractor work, including photo documentation, and will prepare scopes and estimates for work to be performed.

    Inspect and document existing conditions of buildings and equipment to determine the nature and extent of repairs needed. Perform preventive maintenance and make recommendations for future requirements and estimates for budgets. Perform unscheduled or emergency repairs to facilities, structures, and equipment. Obtain required permits through VDOT's annual building permit procedure and issue work orders to appropriate contract or staff.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must have at least a current DPOR Journeyman License in plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, blueprints, and building and fire codes. Ability to manage projects and administer contracts related to facilities operations. Experience administering contracts. Ability to estimate quantities and costs and prepare daily documentation and reports related to project activities. Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently, prioritizing and completing them in a potentially stressful environment. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to obtain Soils and Erosion Inspector certification. Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment used in building trades. Skill in the use of computers, software applications, and digital cameras.

    Ability to perform physically demanding labor in extreme heat and cold, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work on uneven ground.

    Additional Considerations

    Current DPOR Master or Journeyman's License in HVAC preferred. Experience in commercial construction and/or maintenance and trades, Plumbing, Carpentry, Masonry, etc. DHCD license in building, plumbing inspection. Experience in building construction as a project inspector, superintendent, or project manager. Experience with outsourcing approach to facilities management.

    This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations.
