- Performs standardized laboratory procedures and a variety of complex, molecular laboratory procedures within the area or section to which assigned; reviews test results for accuracy; completes reports.
- Evaluates and implements new or revised laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Reviews, interprets, and completes quality control procedures and technical troubleshooting.
- Performs regular preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Accessions samples for in-house testing and referral laboratory testing.
- Performs inventory and secures supplies for molecular testing and manages supply requests.
- Assists in the writing, review and revision of laboratory policies and procedures and in the preparation for laboratory inspections by various regulatory/accrediting agencies.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Extract DNA and RNA from patient samples.
- Molecular technique experience. Prefer experience with real-time PCR, Sanger sequencing, capillary electrophoresis. Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is beneficial.
- Good dexterity with micropipetting.
- Advanced technical skills in performing and analyzing various molecular laboratory tests and procedures.
- Knowledge of general laboratory, safety and quality control, principles, techniques, and terminology and use of complex medical equipment.
- Excellent internal/external customer service.
- Ability to work in a Laboratory Information System.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.

Job Summary:
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at UT Health San Antonio is looking for a clinical laboratory scientist to join our growing team.
The laboratory develops and performs molecular diagnostic tests for nucleic acid targets found in a variety of settings in medicine including hematopathology, solid tumor and molecular microbiological testing as well as a selection of genetic and infectious disease tests.
The ideal candidate will be eligible for ASCP MB or MLS certification. Experience with molecular techniques including PCR and next-generation sequencing are a bonus.The candidate will perform a variety of molecular clinical assays, which may include Sanger sequencing, real-time PCR and next-generation sequencing.

Bachelor's degree in related field required.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience is required.
Preferred
Experience:
NGS Sequencing (Next-Generation Sequencing)
Experience/knowledge with molecular oncology
Additional Licenses and Certifications:
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB), or Specialist in Molecular Biology (SMB) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist or equivalent is required.
