    Responsibilities:

    Job title: Sr. Systems Engineer

    Sabre is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to support the Chesapeake UAS Route Network (CURN ) project. The UMD UAS Research and Operations Center experts leverage extensive experience in military and civilian aviation, engineering, and project management to accelerate the safe, responsible application of UAS in public and private industries. The Chesapeake UAS Route Network project seeks to develop a UAS-navigable network of routes around the Chesapeake Bay that will allow for routine advanced UAS operations.

    Location: The position will require on-site support at our facility at St. Mary's County Regional Airport a dedicated office space and program support is provided.

    Duties to include but not limited to:

    • Advise CURN Project Manager (PM) and provide Systems Engineering (SE) efforts to develop a top-level roadmap to CURN including addressing such items as: Infrastructure; Policy/regulations; FAA interactions; State vs. federal roles; Route structure layout and nodes; Etc.
    • Advise PM and provided technical leadership to the UROC Engineering team on SE efforts building out Penguin UASs, C2 and other networks, ops center, etc.
    • Advise PM on operational mission planning and assist in coordinating with FAA, Navy, and other entities as necessary to accomplish initial flight operations.
    • Assist PM identifying, evaluating, and selecting potential UAS Support Services (USS) providers for UAS Traffic Management (UTM), Weather, Safety Management, airspace visualization, etc.
    • Assist PM and UROC Chief of Safety in developing and coordinating safety cases for CURN Operations.
    • Mentor UROC engineers in formal Systems Engineering approaches to technical efforts of varying scales.
    • Guide use of SE in all CURN engineering efforts.
    • Guide tailoring of existing UROC Airworthiness process/tool for sUAS.
    Qualifications:

    Job Requirements:

    • Minimum of 7 years of progressive responsible engineering or technical experience
    • Demonstrated proficiency with FAA and UAS concepts, technical approaches and regulations, and an understanding of those relationships
    • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and project planning application software, such as Project.
