    JOB DESCRIPTIONGENERAL SUMMARY :
    Addressing technical, formulation and application issues within current color laboratory.
    Monitor formulations for accuracy, correct entry and insure correct QC, fill-off and manufacturing parameters are recorded.
    Approve color samples for individual color laboratory personnel and maintain scheduling of color projects.
    Provide technical support for manufacturing, QA/QC, sales and response to customer inquiries.
    PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

    Work with current personnel to monitor and improve formulation qualityCommunicate as needed with sales personnel and customersManage color lab personnel on day-to-day basisIdentify and implement new color matching techniques and practices in color lab and in manufacturing environmentInfluence total sales and profit of the organization through improved communication, product quality and color lab throughputStop and and/or hold any color laboratory or manufacturing color batch or process for quality or customer issuesMonitor customer complaints and identify procedures needing improvementInsure consistent color lab sample and formulation qualityWork effectively with team leaders to improve confidence with customers and sales teamsUnderstand and monitor procedures used in color lab and manufacturingMonitor color project throughoutDevelop standard operating procedures for color project development and clearly identify project flowMonitor project turns as a whole and per individual and right first time percentage for entire group and individualManage and maintain physical appearance of Color Laboratory to meet visual expectationsQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    Experience and Education RequiredMinimum 5 years' experience in coatings development and/or experience with a make to order coatings manufacturer with emphasis on wood coatings.

    Minimum 2 years of technical management experienceSpecific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities RequiredMust be self-motivatedEndorse and practice teamwork conceptCompetent math skillsUse knowledge to serve as a resource for co-workersGood communication skills, both written and verbalCapable of managing multiple task and prioritizing workExcel in the development of knowledge and skills of Laboratory PersonnelAccept responsibility for department's equipment and workstations including maintenance and cleanlinessAcceptable score on Munsel Color Test (no greater than 30)Good supervisory skillsMust support Technical Director and Director, styling and Color Development to maintain proper culture promoting good work ethics, competency, teamwork, and service to other departmentsReasoning AbilityDetermine correct processes regarding defined laboratory proceduresWork without continuous supervision while completing assigned projects.

    Make responsible decisions based on length of experience, knowledge and input from the Laboratory Staff.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    Normal laboratory work environment with moderate exposure to solvent odors.
    Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to enable proper health and safety precautions at all times.
    HMIS and MSDS guidelines must be followed when working with raw materials and coatings to assure safety.
