    Job Description

    Overnight Staff Nurse

Full time and part time positions are available.

You are a caring, hard working individual who thrives in a team environment and is committed to excellence.

The Overnight Staff Nurse plays a vital role in assessing, planning, and providing care to individuals undergoing detoxification from substances. Your contributions will be essential in addressing the complex medical needs of patients during their detoxification process.

The Dimock Center is a federally qualified community health center that heals and uplifts individuals, families and communities. Our vision is to redefine the model of a healthy community by creating equitable access to comprehensive health care and education. We promote a culture of respect, excellence, equal opportunity, and commitment to our employees and the communities we serve.

Our Behavioral Health Services programs provide residential and outpatient treatment for those struggling with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders. For many individuals, our programs literally save lives.

The Acute Treatment Services program (ATS, commonly known as "Detox") is a 39-bed healthcare facility that provides services to adults struggling with drugs, including heroin and prescription drugs, or alcohol. The program focuses on stabilizing individuals, enhancing their motivation to change, and linking them to continued treatment and collateral services. Patients are admitted by licensed nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and each patient is seen by a licensed medical professional. The program is staffed by highly skilled professionals who work with each patient to develop an individualized treatment plan and determine appropriate aftercare.

    Responsibilities:

    Assessment and Monitoring:

    • Conduct thorough physical and psychological assessments of patients upon admission to the detoxification unit.
    • Monitor vital signs, withdrawal symptoms, and overall patient condition, and respond promptly to any changes or emergent situations.
    • Utilize your medical-surgical knowledge to identify and manage co-occurring medical conditions that may impact the detox process.

    Patient Care:

    • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and manage medical issues.
    • Implement evidence-based nursing interventions to ensure patient safety, comfort, and well-being during the detoxification process.
    • Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families about the detox process and potential complications.

    Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, therapists, social workers, and counselors, to develop individualized detox plans for patients.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate care, report patient progress, and address any concerns.

    Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, medications administered, and patient responses.
    • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards related to patient confidentiality and record-keeping.

    Education and Training:

    • Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in medical-surgical nursing and substance detoxification.
    • Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills.

    Quality Improvement:

    • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives by participating in performance improvement activities and suggesting process enhancements.

    Qualifications:

Recent nursing graduates are invited to apply.

    • Valid and current registered nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
    • Experience in medical-surgical nursing is desired.
    • Experience in addiction or detox settings is highly desirable.
    • Certification in addiction nursing or related field is a plus.
    • Strong understanding of medical-surgical principles, including the management of co-occurring medical conditions.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
    • Computer literacy.
    • Ability to handle high-stress situations and provide compassionate care.
    • Dedication to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding ethical standards.
    • Positive attitude and passion for working with patients with substance-use disorder.

    Advantages:

If you are a skilled and empathetic nurse with a background in medical-surgical nursing and a passion for helping individuals through the detoxification process, we encourage you to apply. Join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those seeking recovery.
