    Department Summary:

    MITRE's Systems Engineering Analytics Department is charged to solve some of our nation's most critical challenges in delivering services to citizens throughout defense and intelligence, aviation, homeland security, the judiciary, healthcare, and cybersecurity domains.

    Job Description:

    Within our Systems Engineering Analytics Department we have an opportunity for Lead Data Scientist or Computer Scientist to serve as a Group Leader (GL).

    Experience should include three or more of the following: machine learning, relational database design and management, data ingest and curation; data analytics including deep learning and artificial intelligence; data visualization including User Interface development; full stack development, including hardware and software architecture, virtual machine technology and management, and software engineering; data export including API development .

    As our GL you will use your strong background in quantitative analysis, with hands on Systems Engineering experience for data analytics, software systems, and modeling. The successful candidate will be a key part of the management team and a people leader within the department. This position will be responsible for serving as a direct supervisor for 6-8 staff members with a diverse skill base in machine learning, data analysis, and research development. This position will focus on the development and deployment of machine learning models and data visualization products. The candidate will work closely with department members in a collaborative setting.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • BS in Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering or related field and 8+ years of related data analytics experience including 2 years of leadership experience or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
    • Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government clearance.
    • Knowledge and experience with statistical learning, data collection techniques, data preparation and curation, data management and modeling tools, database system design, relational and graph database theory, data visualization, and API development.
    • Proven track record of conducting research and development in data analytics pipeline design using systems engineering practices.
    • Demonstrated leadership by servitude (servant leader principles).
    • Demonstrated track record of exemplifying MITRE core values of speed, adaptability, collaboration, and grace & respect.
    • Familiar with managing projects/programs and project management tools.
    • Training and experience in a formal data science program (completed or ongoing).
    • Proven track record of teaching and mentoring early career data professionals.
    • Results-oriented, capable of delegation and providing effective oversight.
    • Able to lead a project, implementing staff expansion, using a project teaming-based approach.
    • Skilled communicator.
    • Track record of credibility with management and staff.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Preference given to candidates with experience as a Task Leader (TL)/deputy TL, Project Leader/deputy PL, or GL/Deputy GL at MITRE.
    • Ability to collaboratively develop and expand the community of interest in analytics as applied from a system engineering perspective.
    • Experienced in applying statistical learning, software development, and deployment solutions.
    • Capable of creating a vision, gaining consensus, establishing a plan, and motivating team members towards productive outcomes.

    $145,500 - $182,000 - $218,500 Annual
