    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    This Cook position is responsible for performing a variety of duties relevant to the retail food service operations in the cafeteria at the Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Tasks include setting up service lines, pre-plating foods, preparation of meals, cooking, working the grill, omelet, and stir-fry station, and serving customers.

    You will also be responsible for

    • Reviewing menus, production sheets, recipes and tallied items to verify needs for the day
    • Bake, roast, grill, boil and steam meat, fish, vegetables and other foods
    • Clean, peel, cut, slice, dice, weigh and measure ingredients for recipes
    • Plate and/or garnish food for attractive presentation

    This is a part-time per diem (as needed) position with a variable work schedule and working hours. This position may be required to travel to other UCLA Health sites including the Santa Monica Hospital.

    Required

    • Must have ServSafe or equivalent safe food handling certification.
    • Experience cooking in a professional setting.
    • Knowledge and experience with fry grills, knives, meat slicers, steam cookers, ovens, food choppers, and food mixers.
    • Ability to work in a standing position for a long period of time; stretch, bend, walk, stoop and reach repetitively.
    • Ability to work in hot, cold, and/or wet areas.
    • Ability to lift 50+ lbs; push and/or pull 350+ lbs.
    • Ability to conform to dress code.
    • Ability to use strong cleaning solutions.
    • Ability to read, write, and comprehend standard English.
    • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers, customers, supervisors and managers.
    • Ability to travel to multiple UCLA Health locations as needed.
