    POSITION SUMMARY:
    A mechanical technician is responsible for performing diagnosis and repairs as assigned by service management based on individual qualifications and skill level


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
    Essential duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards. Performs all work in an area of the shop that is designated by management. Diagnoses cause of any malfunctions and performs repairs. Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.

    Communicates with service advisor and/or service management immediately if work outlined is not needed, if additional work is needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.

    Provides complete and accurate written explanations on the repair order to describe the work performed and recommended. Performs administrative procedures to complete warranty repair orders, parts procurement and other tasks as assigned. Produces high quality work that supports pride in workmanship.

    Performs a qualify control inspection of every vehicle, test drives vehicles or refers to test technician, where necessary, and seeks assistance of the appropriate personnel when any repair is questionable.

    Performs all work according to the applicable safety requirements and procedures, including use of tools and equipment. Wears the appropriate safety protection equipment where necessary. Reports any safety issues, machinery defects or malfunctions to service management immediately. Complies with all federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to
    • Know, etc.
    Properly uses and maintains accountability for special service tools, shop equipment and repair manuals provided by the service department. Returns all items to their assigned location after use.

    Assists the dealership in its efforts to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction through proper repair procedures, attitudes and communication.

    Shows common courtesy to all customers and dealership personnel.

    Ensures that customers' and dealership vehicles are returned in the condition received, uses necessary measures to prevent the vehicle from getting damaged or dirty.

    Notifies Service Management immediately of any occurrence that changes or alters the appearance or condition of the vehicle. Actively participates in manufacturer and technician training programs, schools and events, including certification programs. Reviews technician service bulletins and other publications assigned by manufactures, vendors and management. Maintains assigned workspace in a clean and organized manner. Complies with dealership's policy for establishing flat rate time for all repair work and maintenance services. Complies with company timekeeping policy by maintaining accurate records of hours worked through electronic timekeeping system.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Standing:
    Must be able to work in a standing position up to eight (8) hours per day in four (4) hour intervals on concrete and asphalt surfaces


    Sitting:

    Certain mechanical tasks may require work in the sitting position up to three (3) hour intervals with mobility breaks as necessary.

    Sitting surfaces will depend on the tasks performed.


    Walking:
    Various tasks will require walking as much as 100 yards on concrete and asphalt surfaces. 10-20% of the day requires walking in multiple increments.


    Changing Positions:
    Flexibility is allowed in making frequent position changes (standing, sitting, and walking) as necessary to physically perform routine mechanical tasks

    Carrying/Lifting:
    80-90% of the day will be spent carrying objects that weigh less than 10 lbs. Less than 5% of the day will be spent lifting objects that weigh over 10 lbs. but not more than 50 lbs. These objects may come in various shapes and sizes. If the object is too bulky or heavy, the technician must seek assistance.


    Pushing/Pulling:

    Various types of equipment (e.g., engine hoist, floor jacks, engine analyzer, air hoses, etc.) will require pushing and/or pulling.

    Pushing is also required when moving inoperative vehicles. Some objects will require up to 50 lbs. of torque or effort for 100 feet or less. Pushing/pulling activities are required 10-15% of the day.


    Bending/Twisting:

    The ability to bend and/or twist from waist, knees, neck, back, or arms is required 100% of the time while performing repair operations.

    80-90% of the day will be spent performing repair operations.


    Reaching/Handling:
    All repair operations will require the use of hands and arms. 90% extension, contraction of arms and 180 degree rotation of hands/arms will be necessary to perform routine job tasks. 80-90% of the day will require various reaching/handling functions.


    Climbing:
    Technicians may be required to service vehicle roof panel accessories or modified equipment installed on customer vehicles. These repairs may involve ascending and descending stairs or a ladder of some type.


    Crawling/Kneeling:
    Crawling and/or kneeling are required when positioning a floor jack or hydraulic lift on concrete surfaces. Some crawling and/or kneeling may also be necessary to inspect under a vehicle at ground level. This function may be necessary 10-12 times a day in 1-5 minute increments.

    EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
    Expected hours of work will be established by the Department Director and employee based upon hours of operation, availability and employment status, prior to date of hire or transfer


    TRAVEL:
    Travel is limited and local during the business day, although some out of area and overnight travel may be required


    REQUIRED EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:

    Two to four years of related experience and/or training; or Associates Degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technician school and one year of related experience and/or training.
