    POSITION SUMMARY


    Performs Mammographic exams by following and verifying referring providers' orders and remaining in compliance with the Imaging Sciences department and all governing bodies.


    Minimum Qualifications
    Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology. Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required.

    : Medical Record (eRecord), PACS, Radiology Information System (RIS), patient transport, communication systems, web paging, telephone/fax, printers.

    Equipment:
    Holistic Selenia, POCT instrumentation for pregnancy.


    Typical Assignments and Responsibilities


    30% Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

    Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes. Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatment and answering questions.

    25% Prepares patient for Radiological/Mammographic procedures by positioning patient; moving equipment into specified position; determining proper exposures. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider's orders; following dual identifier procedure. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.

    20% Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation. Maintains production and quality of Mammographic images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures.


    15% Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques (ALARA), patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and automatic exposure controls.


    10% Assists Assistant Supervisor with all QA and QC tests and documentation to ensure compliance with MQSA and FDA standards.

    Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.

    • Adheres to all Imaging Sciences and University policies including but not limited to Attendance, Dress Code, Patient identification, Confidentiality/HIPPA, infection control, and Hazardous materials and safety policies.
    • Independently completes all required hospital mandatories including Health update, Fluoroscopy refresher, online courses and Mandatory in-service test.
    • Is aware of on-call schedule and obligations to provide coverage when necessary.
    • Is part of Mammography rotation schedule; covering all physical locations where Mammography services are provided by Imaging Sciences.
    • Must be aware of the presence of electrical and radiant energy hazards and intermittent exposure to unpleasant physical conditions. Must be able to stand most of the day regularly handling light to heavy weights.
    • Works independently and as a team. Knows when to ask a senior technologist for assistance.
    • Must have well developed verbal and written communication skills being able to interpret and provide clear instructions to the patient so that they understand the procedure.
    • Must create a positive interface between Imaging Sciences and all of its internal and external customers.
    • Practices appropriate infection control techniques before and after each patient exam.

    Career Ladder :

    The two bands within this position are differentiated by level of independence, supervision required, and the ability to precept new employees in the use of all equipment.


    Band One:
    _Non-Certified Mammography Technologist_ - Technologists new to the Mammography Department who require training as well as regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior technologist. This generally involves orientation to the Departments infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures and routines. Is responsible for performing pregnancy tests, scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paper and computer work, and discharging the patient from the Mammography department with appropriate post Mammographic instructions.


    Band Two:
    _Certified Mammography Technologist_ - With minimal supervision is responsible for performing pregnancy tests, scanning patients in a safe and efficient manner, completing all associated paperwork and computer work, and discharging the patient from the Mammography department with appropriate post Mammographic instructions.


    Band 2 requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Mammography in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department, certification in Mammography, and the capability of competently performing all Mammography related duties.

    Will serve as a preceptor in the on-boarding of newly hired Technologists directly orienting to equipment, imaging routines and procedures, computer programs and software, as well as departmental and hospital policies.

    Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as new equipment evaluations and assisting in the design of areas where clinical equipment will be installed, or assignment to departmental committees.

    _To be eligible for advancement consideration, technologist must be in good standing.

    Readiness for movement to Band Two is assessed by the Mammography Supervisor upon successful demonstration of knowledge and task proficiency as defined in the career ladder, is based on departmental needs, and requires final approval from the Imaging Sciences Clinical Director of Operations in collaboration with Human Resources.

    Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
