Grade/Salary Range: 73 SWIII $57,752 - $105,245 Starting $59,451

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The primary purpose of this position is to provide foster care and adoption services to children from
infancy to age 21 who have been removed from their home with no plans of reunification. This position assesses, evaluates and
identifies risks to children and determines what immediate action needs to be taken as defined by law. This position assesses the
children's needs and develops a plan for service so the children will have a permanent placement within one year. This position
assesses the need for diagnostic studies, evaluations, medical examinations and facilitates movement in and out of the legal system.
This position evaluates the children's placement and supervises the children in the foster home to assure proper care is received. This
position provides social casework and other treatment services to facilitate the children's psychosocial adjustment and provides
transportation necessary to the provision of foster care services for children when needed and not otherwise available.
This employee will learn and use programs Compass Pilot and Compass Appointments (Compass Co-Pilot, if issued a DSS iPad) as
required by position to do, but not limited to: request leave, schedule/receive appropriate appointments, set up virtual files,
scan/retrieve documents, receive/send tasks. Experience using Microsoft Office 2000 (Word, Excel, etc.) required.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or
Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; or
Master's degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling; or
Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience;
or
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.
4-year college or university degree lacking the required social work experience will be considered as a trainee
for the position.
(Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.)
Trainee Opportunities:
Applicants who meet the required minimum education but lack the required social work experience may be considered
as a Trainee. If hired, the applicant will work in the position to gain experience until the minimum experience
qualifications are met. The starting salary for a trainee is 5% less than the starting salary for the fully qualified
applicant.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their
application to complex casework, group work, and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical,
behavioral, and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a
range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community laws, regulations, and
policies which govern the program. General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training. In certain
settings, considerable knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding
clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client
and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problems. Ability to supervise,
train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns in the program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with members of caseload and their families as well as civic, legal, medical, social and religious organizations. Ability to
express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.). Must
possess a valid NC Driver's license and have access to a personal automobile and carry the minimum amount of insurance as required
by Wayne County Policy.
