    JOB SUMMARY: Practices within the professional boundaries established by the Board of Nursing in assessing patients' needs, administering physician prescribed treatments, teaching patients and family members about their disease state and the corresponding treatments and side effects, counseling of patients and family members when appropriate and assisting the physician in the overall care of the patients.

    This position is a Safety Sensitive Position. The essential functions, physical demands, and mental competencies of this job require the employee maintain the ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.

    JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
    1. Provide on-site patient care and to all patients, including coordination of care with physician, other staff members and ancillary services when needed
    2. Provide patient teaching on all new patients regarding disease, treatment information, available support services and counseling options as indicated
    3. Triage telephone calls, resolve patient issues and concerns, review problems with physician and take appropriate action
    4. Administer/evaluate new and existing programs/protocols
    5. Maintain accurate patient charts/records and document nursing actions and functions
    6. Coordinate patient care activities with homecare or other ancillary services
    7. Maintain hematology/oncology expertise at all times
    8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of biotherapy, chemotherapy and infusion therapy drugs and their potential side effects
    9. May be required to travel with MD
    10. Round with MD during week and weekend
    11. Initial workup of new clinic patients, hospital consults and established patient hospital H&P (history and physical)
    EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
    1. ADN or BSN from an accredited College of Nursing
    2. Valid and current Arkansas state nursing license
    3. Chemotherapy Certification (required within 90 days of employment)
    EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
    1. 2-5 years' clinical experience in direct patient care
    2. Maintain required number of continuing education units (CEU's) as specified by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
    3. Excellent computer and other basic office equipment skills
    4. Expertise in IV therapy skills and injections
    OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: This position may require additional hours outside the normal 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday work schedule and occasional travel throughout Central Arkansas.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse - Lead Nurse

    REPORTS TO: Director, Nursing

    JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Nurse practices within the professional boundaries established by the Board of Nursing in assessing patient needs, teaching patients and family members about their disease state and the corresponding treatments and side effects, counseling of patients and family members when appropriate and assisting the physician in the overall care of the patients. The Lead Nurse is also responsible for participating in the coordination of staffing and development of new staff within their assigned team. The Lead Nurse will act as a liaison between CARTI team members and the Director of Nursing.

    JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Provide on-site patient care and services to all patients, including coordination of care with physicians, other staff members and ancillary services when needed
    2. Provides patient education based on assessment of patient and caregiver needs and reinforces teaching at appropriate intervals
    3. Coordinates additional resources and services including available support services and counseling options as indicated
    4. Triage telephone calls, resolve patient issues and concerns, review problems with physician and take appropriate action
    5. Requests outside records and scans, assembles records and prepares charts, while maintaining confidentiality of all medical documents and patient information.
    6. Communicates with physicians; transcribes, clarifies and implements physicians' orders.
    7. Administer/evaluate new and existing programs/protocols
    8. Maintain accurate patient charts/records and document nursing actions and functions
    9. Maintain hematology/oncology expertise at all times
    10. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of biotherapy, chemotherapy and infusion therapy drugs and their potential side effects
    11. May be required to travel with MD
    12. Prepares and instructs patients for examination; assists physician when necessary for both initial workup and follow up care of established patients
    13. Cleans and prepares exam rooms for next patient, issues supplies to patients as necessary.
    14. Monitors medical equipment in the nursing area and requests repairs/replacements as necessary.
    15. Maintain nursing areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
    16. Assists in training new departmental personnel.
    17. Prepares Patient Occurrence Reports/Variance Reports as needed.
    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Document the performance of nurses, assists with performance evaluations and counsel nurses on unsatisfactory performance with the approval of the Director of Nursing
    2. Address personnel and administrative issues and solve problems among staff as appropriate
    3. Investigates patient and employee occurrences/variances and provides follow-up.
    4. Coordinates staffing for the assigned team as well as communication of upcoming needs and resources through the assignment of roles, time off approval and denial based on team needs, and monitoring and reporting of attendance of team.
    5. Ensures proper availability of supplies through communication and assistance with ordering and continuous monitoring of inventory. Inventories medical and office supplies. Notifies the Director of Nursing of needed items.
    6. Determines work procedures; prepares work schedules, expedites workflow, evaluates, counsels, and discusses with Director any performance issues of team members.
    7. Directs flexing and sharing of staff to support patient volumes.
    8. Ensures proper utilization of time by team members and approves payroll ensuring staff appropriately clocks in and out.
    9. Actively involved in hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluation of new team members.
    10. Ensures all team members have completed assigned training and competencies.
    11. Assists with the orientation and supervision of students rotating through the nursing area.
    12. Monitors patient flow and takes an active role in improving patient experience and improvement activities of the organization
    13. Facilitates teaching of new information regarding medical practice, EMR, policy and procedure, and any other relevant material to team members.

      3. Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.
      4. Participate in economical utilization of supplies and ensure equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
    3. Assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner.
    4. Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.
      1. Identify yourself in a pleasant and positive manner.
      2. Take responsibility for helping the caller.
    5. Assist in the orientation/training for new colleagues.
    6. Assist other colleagues in the performance of their assignments.

    7. Take directions and initiate actions (cross/additional training) that will allow the assumption of cross-functional duties to ensure seamless workflow.

      2. Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents so follow up and/or prevention can occur.
      3. Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service.
    11. Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet client expectations.

    15. Demonstrate adherence and support of company-wide service standards as evidenced by observation andfeedback from patients, family members, and other clients.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing and the general supervision of the Vice President of Medical Oncology, this position is responsible for the delivery of nursing care to include nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention and evaluation of patients during a treatment day, five days a week or as directed. Lead Nurse is responsible for providing leadership and professional development of CARTI's Medical Oncology nursing team members. Indirect supervision of PRN nursing team members.

    EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
    1. ADN or BSN from an accredited College of Nursing
    2. BLS Certified
    3. Valid and current Arkansas state nursing license
    4. Chemotherapy Certification (required within 90 days of employment)
    5. Valid Arkansas Driver's License (if travel is required)
    6. Ongoing education toward ONS certification
    EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
    1. 2-5 years' clinical experience in direct patient care preferred
    2. Maintain required number of continuing education units (CEU's) as specified by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
    3. Excellent computer and other basic office equipment skills
