General Purpose
Under general supervision, perform administrative support functions associated with coordinating specified public, social or welfare projects or work activities of own department or sub-recipient organizations that engage in or help strengthen and extend selected community volunteer services programs.
Typical Duties
Participate in volunteer recruitment campaigns. Involves: Confer with department management and other functionally responsible staff to ascertain organization workforce needs for various grant funded or other public services initiatives, and outreach plans for attracting interested volunteers. Speaks to community groups, delivering prescribed presentations to explain organization activities and role of volunteer programs, and invite applications for available projects in such areas as teaching, corrections, medical specialty or social work. Receive and respond to written or telephone inquiries from the public about serving as volunteers. Interview, screen, classify and refer applicants to approved non-profit sub-recipient agencies or department units for volunteer work based on information furnished regarding experience, capabilities, interests and availability. Write and arrange to publicize or distribute ordinary news releases and promotional information on volunteer programs, resource needs and services donated.
Participate in volunteer orientation and in-service training. Involves: Explain meals, transportation and other reimbursements to volunteers. Introduce and acquaint volunteers with workstations and staff. Schedule attendance of class sessions to inform new recruits of policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service, for on-the-job and other required training in specific assignments. Ensure arrangements for supervision and evaluation of volunteers are implemented prior to assignment in specific organization units. Assist with developing and organizing specified for volunteer program activities in accordance with clearly prescribed department or funding entity requirements and procedures. Prepare and maintain related procedural and training manuals.
Participate in monitoring work and recognizing results of volunteers. Involves: Discuss job requirements and working conditions with sub-recipient organizations for selection and placement of volunteers. Check workstations for compliance with policies and agreements. Receive and review written reports and observe activities of volunteers to evaluate performance. Serve as liaison between administration, staff and volunteers, which includes conferring with volunteers to refer grievances or personnel problems to functionally responsible staff for resolution and to foster cooperation and interest. Assist with events to publicly acknowledge and reward accomplishments by volunteer workers. Collect and compile statistic, prepare periodic reports on extent, nature and value of volunteer services. Calculate and submit reimbursements to volunteers for approval. Prepare and maintain related personnel and activity credit records.

ELIGIBILITY FOR VACATION LEAVE
All regular employees who are regularly scheduled to work on an average, a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week, who have held a position in the City Service for a period of six months from date of employment, shall be eligible for vacation allowance as hereinafter set forth. Part-time employees shall accrue vacation leave at a pro-rated amount of full-time entitlement based on the number of hours that they are scheduled to work. Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements shall accrue vacation as provided in the applicable agreement.
Regular employees in the City Service shall accrue vacation credit at the following rates per pay period, calculated from the date of employment of each employee:
For 0 - 5 years of service (12 days):
40 hour per week employees hours per biweekly pay period
For >5 to 15 years of service (17 days):
40 hour per week employees hours per biweekly pay period
For >15 or more years of service (20 days):
40 hour per week employees hours per biweekly pay period
SICK LEAVE WITH PAY
Employees shall be entitled to accrue sick leave with pay in accordance with the Rules of the Civil Service Commission.
ACCIDENT WITH PAY LEAVE
The Amended Section 4.4 of the Ordinance shall become effective upon adoption and shall apply to occupational injuries and occupational diseases occurring on and after date of adoption. Occupational injuries and occupational diseases occurring before such date will be governed by the Ordinance in effect at the time of the date of injury or disease.
PREGNANCY LEAVE
A) Pregnancy shall be treated the same as any other temporary physical disability.
B) An employee on pregnancy leave shall use accumulated and unused regular sick leave time and then (unless granted use of special sick leave) shall be on leave without pay, unless the employee chooses to use any accumulated and unused annual leave.
C) An employee going on pregnancy leave shall give written notice to her department head with appropriate medical verification. Before returning to work from pregnancy leave, the individual will provide appropriate medical documentation releasing the employee to return to work, as is required for any individual who has been on leave for a temporary physical disability.
