- Take charge of the thermal design and analysis of drones, aircraft, or missiles.
- Utilize fundamental principles for decision-making and determine the appropriate level of analysis required. Conduct hand calculations, develop spreadsheets, and create first-order models in MATLAB/Python to guide decisions before delving into detailed design.
- Establish robust thermal architecture capable of withstanding challenging environments and rigorous flight conditions. Identify extreme scenarios that must be analyzed in accordance with industry standards and intended usage.
- Collaborate with engineers in various disciplines to document power dissipations across different operational modes.
- Effectively communicate the advantages and disadvantages of system architecture concerning thermal considerations.
- Take ownership of thermal FEA/CFD models and forecast system performance. Define design limits for testing and operation.
- Develop and implement prototype constructions and tests to validate thermal designs (perform CAD work, select sensors and DAQ equipment, analyze data, summarize outcomes, etc.).
- Deliver thermal status updates at formal reviews internally and with clients. Offer clear insights into timelines and technical progress.
- Create internal tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of analyses.
- Support failure reviews and conduct root-cause analysis using test data and thermal assessments.
- Pursuing or holding a MS or higher degree in engineering or applied physics with a focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics
- Comprehensive knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics
- Background in the aerospace industry and involvement in an aircraft, rocket, or missile program
- Over 5 years of experience designing thermal systems for integrated hardware products
- Practical experience in designing passive and active thermal management systems
- Experience in thermal testing –including sensor selection, data acquisition, and post-processing
- Expertise in thermal FEA –STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, Icepak, or Flotherm
- Proficiency in CAD using SolidWorks or Siemens NX
- Dedication to safeguarding the United States and its allies
- Must have U.S. Person status to access export-controlled data
- Experience in coding with high-level languages like Python or MATLAB for tasks such as lumped thermal capacitance steady state and transient analysis
- Ability to acquire and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
